Possible projeckt alpinweiss II

Do it!!Thinking about taking the alpinweiss to the next level now that I'm getting a second car. This would involve reducing weight and focussing the car more towards track work. So stripped interior, lightweight seats, cage, harnesses etc. Then as and when it wares out the suspension would be improved. The problem is that as my car is an ABY coupe it's still worth cÂŁ5k and the value would be affected pretty badly by the aforementioned mods as it's a limited market. That said it has some rust on the front wings and has done 163k.
For more of a racy look, sound and to save weight I'd be looking at getting a 3" turbo back side exit system with sports cat to replace the Milltek but apart from that everything would stay the same.
I'd hope to strip 100Kg or so out and a bit of that would go back in with a cage.
The brakes are fine and would stay the same.
Wishbones need polybusing, subframes alu mounts, top mounts need mount savers.
What do you guys reckon? I think I need something to take my mind of things... internet porn is getting boring after 6 months off
Get a diesel runabout, get an 80 tdi and bang the interior in that!!
Brakes would be no prob as it would be less weight
would def poly bush, ali mounts & mount savers, de cat it
Like the coilovers you chose nice bits of kit- while you are at it it is worth paying the cash on having the car alignment setup properly and the car cornerweighted. makes an unreal difference!
this sites quite good and explains what alters what.
Get the seats out (if you have never had them out before be amazed as they weigh a ton and bang in a set of these
driven cars with them and recommended these to customers FAR better than the sparco/cobra equiv. and a set of sabelt harnesses!!
Best bet is to get on here and see whats to offer.....

Go for it you know you want to.........just remember to move over when the monochrome 924 1.8t flashes you over!!!!!:mischeif:
Oh yes- once you get it all sorted and are cornering at 20 mph more than before remember to upgrade the oil system- seen FAAAAARRRRRR too many people turn their road cars into trackdayslags and bin the engine on one loooooooonnnnngg corner

The man makes a VERY good point about the oil sump... For a stock engine the S2 has a pretty good sump, but it would be good insurance to fit baffles in the sump to stop it sloshing about under the increased G-forces - causing potential oil starvation to critical components.
I can't recall anyone ever upgrading the oil pump - its a mighty good item too. The sump baffles will ensure the oil pump can do its job.Paul Nugent

OK Mr pedantic... to be more clear I meant to say "I can't recall anyone ever upgrading the oil pump on an S2" - its a damn fine oil pump from the factory. Sure lots of lesser engines have oil pumps that are useless in a stressed environment. And for the record I've never built race/rally engines for a living - I've built a few for fun but hey... We hear about all these 400-500-600-900bhp S2 engines and details about turbos and internal upgrades, but I can't remember any reference to an uprated or modified oil pump. Maybe I missed that memo

will you always get starvation under high cornering forces or is it on;ly if running below the max level???sigpic

I get it under braking mostly (dread to think what it will be like with the monos!), ususally only when i'm low on oil. The 7A sumps could be different.
My GTi KV had a baffled sump and i still had starvation under braking and launching so don't know if baffled would be enough. If it's a problem, dry sump it i would say.Comment

Picking up a Polo GT on Tuesday as a daily, got to get it sorted and a little pimped first then the S2 becomes a secondary car.
The longitudinal mounting of the S2 engine does help with cornering, in a car with transverse mounted engine you do struggle and a windage plate is a minimum accessory.
Already got a Recaro Speed so will stick with that as a Pole Position is ÂŁ400+ by the time it's fitted and harnesses are a further ÂŁ250 for good ones. I've have the standard seats out a few times and the fronts are HEAVY, rears aren't much though!
The first stage will be to investigate the possible weight loss with ÂŁ0 oulay. If the weight loss is near ÂŁ100Kg then it starts to look like a good idea although a cage will add 50Kg of tha back in easily. Ironically the best weight saving measure to date is the spare wheel at 21.5Kg and that doesn't require much effort to remove it... I will get the scales out and detail weights.
Forgot to add that to the dream list of ÂŁ2k engine rebuild, ÂŁ1k coilovers and ÂŁ1k interior mods, there's also the carbon bonnet and fibreglass front wings
This really is a long term project methinks... by the time I finish petrol will be ÂŁ3 / thimble and I'll have given up

7A engines have the same sump but dont have the baffle plate, i get the oil light sometimes after braking hard into a roundabout, after 3-4secs of cornering you get the beeeeep!
@Paul i have heard from a few sources the stock oil pump wont last long after ~7500rpms.91CQ20v - Gone to a new home
