    Zermatt silver urq

copied over from my other project thread so some text might be a bit old

    feeler ur quattro turbo wr

Thanks to gav (aka peanut on here) who's helped out loads with this I now have a ur quattro finally. It turned up at my lockup this morning as I was at work so I had to wait till I finished before I could go over and have a look at it.

apart from the rear shelf which had fallen apart due to the missing rear window (squirrels weigh quite a bit ) the interior is in very good condition just needs a good clean/hoover. Under the bonnet is loads of leaves etc so they will be cleaned up and it will get a good service. Outside of the car is not too bad with a couple of small rust bits to sort.

I had a quick go with a mate to see if that it would start and after swapping the small earth strap by the battery tray (it was rusty due to the missing rear window) for one from the 1.8 gt i'm breaking we had power, the fuel pump was knackered and not making a noise before we started it so we removed it and got alot of what fuel was in the tank out (horrible smelling stuff ) As a temporary measure we used the pump from the 1.8gt just to see if it would start, after a couple of turns it fired up for a bit but was a bit flooded so i've left it till tommorow before having a proper go to have it running for a bit. I've put some v power in so should have cleared out the old fuel ok.

Not the best pictures but here's what I managed to get today

Hope this thread interests people as i'll try keep it updated if people want me to

Gonna have a good clean up of it tomorrow providing I don't have overtime at work, taking over the hoover for starters then can see what it is like under all the grime.

Checked alot of the bits on it whilst I was there and the majority of things work, only thing I found that would not is the front wipers but that should hopefully be easy to sort, shame its a lhd otherwise I could have used the motor from the gt.

Once again, can't say thanks enough to gav for all his help, he's a credit to the forums he's on, especially considering he's just become a dad as well

Been back over today for longer and managed to sort out a couple of little bits but really need more time over there (looking forward to a weekend on it soon) managed to hoover up alot of the leaves etc under the bonnet before the hoover decided enough was enough so i'll take over a proper one next week and finish it off.

Right started off having a look round the car, first thing that I noticed was one of the rear vents had seen better days and the paint had pealed from it, luckily I have the silver gt that i'm breaking so that got swapped over in 5 mins

Then decided to have a look at the air filter, this was soaked thru and the amount of rubbish underneath was unreal, 5 mins with some gloves and the bin had it looking better, need to get the air box out and clean it up fully.

Started clearing out the leaves etc from under the vent on the bonnet, was quite a lot here but no nasty hidden surprises underneath

Picture just for amanda to show where the heated seat switch is on this car, I presume that there is only a heated drivers seat on the car and not passengers as well as I didn't find any other switches/controls.

Standard radio..... and unfortunately all my music on tapes would most likely kill the standard speakers (especially if it had any rear one's) as its all d&b from when I was younger.

roof felt/materials fine but sooooo retro

And we found an annoying small leak in the fuel line by the drivers side strut tower, my mate said that we could splice in a section of pipe to sort this out, what do people think about this, the rest of the system is fine just this small bit. I'm going to change the fuel pump for a 044 whilst I have to as i'm getting a good price on one for the car, only bit i'd have liked to have kept was the screw on connections of the pump, the one's on the 044 are nuts and ring terminals.

Yeah, think first thing is a good clean lol, then fuel lines/proper fuel pump then see whats needed next.

Seats are in good condition and the heated seat element in this seat works, need to get the hoover in on the glass soon tho.

Wheels are growing on me, but I do still like the thought of some ronals as everyday wheels whilst keeping these for shows etc, I dunno

Need to get these bits looked at before they get any worse but its nothing too major

    Worst bit is probably this.....

Speaking to a friend tommorow about what he suggests to get this sorted along with the other small bits that need doing. A pillars, scuttle panel etc are all fine which is a bonus.

Just need to take over some cleaning products and the hoover when i'm next over, get it all tidied up and then sort out the fuel lines/pump and get it started and see where I go from there.

What are peoples views on the standard brakes? any good or worth upgrading?

I'd stick with the Fuch, or go for the original 6x15 Ronal... The car looks under tyred, but Ur's don't need, or even like big boots... It makes them leaden footed...
      Handy to know that.

With regards to the brakes, only reason I asked was I might be getting a spare pair of porsche callipers and was tempted to use them on this as i'm kinda stuck atm, originally I was going to modify the car quite a bit i.e. 20v, ronal's, rs2 recaros, later dash and go for something like djones's car.

but then again alot of people do like the car as it is now, i'm tempted to stick the seats/other mods on the urs4 instead and return this to standard etc. Just gotta hope there isn't any hidden surprises.

And unfortunately yeah thats rust in the middle of the roof, its not gone thru and looks worse than what it is, i'm gonna speak tommorow to a friend and see what he recommends as i've seen his work before and its all good.

I must say I love the Audi quattro stickers on the boot, make a nice change to badges that my other cars have had.

Anyone got any idea where I can souce some new dash bulbs as iirc a few of them are knackered unfortunately.

was looking at doing something like this one

Well did a bit more on the car today whilst the windows was removed from the coupe gt.

One thing that is good is having a car in the same colour for parts that can be switched over, it just a shame some of the bits I need are gone already i.e. the bonnet as you can see here.

This was a problem when we tried starting the car on wednesday. Now been switched out for one from the coupe gt.

drivers side sill just needs a clean

same with the back seat because of the glass from the rear window.

once i'd removed all the glass, dirt etc I found one of these each side

a bit of gaffer tape covering a hole. Looks like how it came from the factory which is a bit wierd, bit of a surprise. Still I managed to get two of the rubber covers from the coupe gt and swapped them over
Saves any chance of water getting down there etc...

Also changing this over from the coupe gt its only a small thing but does make a difference, just a pita the bolt is rounded off....

still at least the rear seats still fine

      and the headlining

I'd have thought they'd have been worse after years with no back window.

drivers foot well come up ok, might take the carpet out and clean it out the car but.....

the hoover had a disagreement with the carpet, I didn't notice till it was too late
still at least its covered up by the rear bench

also found this in the mess in the back seat

Rear shelf is ok just needs a quick touch up but nothing major

this cleaned up better with a decent hoover

passenger sill is fine just needs a wipe down

found this in the battery tray

really need to get some water over and give the car a clean, the brown under the rear seat will clean up as its just like dirt, not proper rust

moved the car outside with the help of a mate so that we could move the coupe gt as well

as can be seen the bonnet is the worst bit of the car, will remove this soon and bin it with the coupe gt shell. Just sourcing one thats in good condition. Anyone know if the stickers underneath the bonnet are still available?

        In its new home

Do I go for new standard plates or the raised metal plates?

Just copying over the main parts now as there is 19 pages of stuff about it on another forum.

Whilst looking in the coupe gt5s earlier I found something that i'd forgotton I had...... looks like they will be ending up on the ur when it goes for spraying as i'll get my mate to mod the outside leg on each seat then they will be a straight drop in, just got to work out if its possible to use the heated seat elements inside them as the electric functions quite easy.

Things are progressing at quite a good rate, the car goes for spraying in a few weeks time and will get new fuel/brake lines thanks to another forum member who said he'd give me a hand doing them. Then need the porsche callipers that I have fitted and after that its going for 20vt time

Right sorry for the slow replies, the car is now up being sorted/sprayed. I picked up a black leather interior for it the other night (cheers steve ) and getting some progress made on it.

I am on the hunt for a cheap inner rear bumper (not the skin part) depending if mine can't be fixed.

Removed the wiring for the dash and fuse box from the coupe gt I was breaking as I need to use this to change to the later dash in the car as unlike what someone mentioned on here the plugs on the back of the switches are different, even the stalks are different

I also quite urgently need to know what ET the wheels are as i'm hopefully ordering some wheels soon for the car, i'm hearing mixed views from et 24 to et 35 and the wheels i'm looking at would need spacers to fit them hence wanting to check before I loose money.

10v engine comes out on sat and new brake/fuel lines get fitted (hoping they turn up in time) and the engine bay is getting sprayed up as well.

took two months for this to turn up - I now have two

Got a new rear bumper coming for £20

Hopefully getting a bonnet soon, this one is mullered

New fuel lines being made up, brake lines next.

Being cleaned up this week to get ready for the work to be done for it, been picking up bits lately so got spare headlights, rear lights and a new clutch fluid reservoir probably getting some more bits soon. Waiting till the roof is sorted then the new interior (black leather with rs2 front seats) will be going in along with the headlining.

Not sure if people are interested in seeing whats happening with the car but if anyone's interested:

Works being done on the drivers side so far

Engine bay is being emptied of everything so that it can be cleaned up and sprayed

            Roofs being tackled this week

Oh and the rear lights have mysteriously changed colour Not sure if i'm 100% on them as I still quite like the red rear lights and if I keep them i'd have them sprayed completely red

              Small update:

Fibreglass bootlid is coming for on the car, been looking into fibreglass/carbon fibre bonnets seeing as I require one for this. Problem is it being christmas not the best time so looks like a standard one will be making its way onto it in the next few weeks to replace the rust that used to be called one (and this is the second zermatt silver bonnet i've had in the same condition )

I spent a short while earlier doing a rough list of parts I require to finish this off (not including a couple of the major items) so at least i've got a rough idea what/when I need stuff. Car should be ready for spraying in the next couple of weeks providing I come up with a bonnet and the spoiler to go on the fibreglass lid. Having trouble sourcing a zermatt silver rear spoiler, most gt's etc came with the black spoiler which I have loads of currently

More works being done on the car this weekend, I now get to start tackling some of the interior wiring as the original stereo wiring for starters looks like someone's made a bad attempt at getting rid of the little dial that adjust front/rear bias. I need to replace the wiring for the dash switches to fusebox for the later wiring to allow me to use the later style dash switches as unlike I was previously told, they are completely different. I was lucky enough to get the complete wiring and fusebox from the coupe gt I stripped a while ago so it should just be plug and play hopefully, going to check/confirm the fusebox fuse order numbers are the same ready to have a go at it.

              Wish me luck

Many thanks to aiden/quattronutter and Bahnstorm www.bahnstorm.net
tel.07886042680 as the cars coming along lovely

              Sunroof anyone?

Clean bay ready for an engine

Been up today to see the fibreglass bootlid that i've now got for the car and it weighs alot less than the metal lid so thats definately going on.

looks wierd without no rings on the side and no stripes, i'll have to source them after its been sprayed

                old bootlid

and a nice shiny engine bay

Can't wait for it to be sprayed next sunday then I can source some decent rims for it. Getting koni's and h&r's for it just after chrimbo.
Quick update, sorry there is no pictures atm but i'm in the middle of moving all my stuff into my place and can't find the cable to the camera or my camera phone.

                fibreglass bootlid is fitted now
Aerial hole on c pillar on both sides now welded up

Got some more parts for the car:

Clutch slave cylinder (ordered this by accident instead of the main so will do both )
                Superflex front wishbone bushes
                Black carpet
                Black center console
                Black gaitor for center console
Spare set of dash switches and now gives me a front foglight switch as was missing this from the gt
                coupe gt5s master cylinder
                Sunvisor clips
                smoked indicators
                smoked side repeaters
                flywheel

I need to source I think its 1 possibly 2 pipes that connect the power steering pump to the steering rack because i'm doing away with the bomb as its an unknown quantity plus its:
a)something else potentially to go wrong
b)something else cluttering up the engine bay
c)something else weighing the car down
d)I will be uprating the brakes all round so should be ok without it (hopefully )
e)removes a bit more of the weight over the front wheels.

I am also going to be going for a sport quattro bonnet at some point soon once moulds have been taken from the original as I saw one at the weekend that was in the right colour etc and I am getting fed up with zermatt silver bonnets rusting, i'm on bonnet number 3, it must be something about them or how they was painted?

Over the next week or so the cars being sprayed, its been delayed over the last couple of weekends due to stuff happening where its being sprayed but once thats done looking forward to getting the interior back in etc. This will be going a bit slower over the next few months whilst I sort out the more expensive bits and a few things in my personal life but looking forward to getting it up and running.

Still got to source/decide what clutch to fit to the car, I need something that will hold 400bhp+ (around 440 max tbh)

Hopefully have some more pictures/updates at the weekend providing I get a chance.

had the back box turn up for a custom system, should be good, not 100% on the box atm as its slightly different to what I wanted but for the price I paid I can resell it on if need be.

Been a while since I updated it. Had a made week before christmas and decided.....

....its getting s2 running gear as i've got most of it and it would make my life a lot easier.

                So far i've got:

                rear diff
                rear driveshafts
                rear subframe
                front subframe
                front cast wishbones
                front/rear hubs

front/rear uprights will be getting cleaned up and some mods.

Just waiting to hear about some rear wishbones and another 3b gearbox/linkage (recently picked one up but thats not for this)

Think thats everything I need tbh, all the bits will be tidied up before fitting etc so expecting to be on the phone to pete reeve quite a bit and hearing about all the NLA bits I need

Madwolf on here cleaned up a spare pair of headlight lenses to go with the headlights i've got hold of and having modified.

The cars still waiting to be sprayed as the weathers not been the best for spraying and i've said i'm in no rush to have it done atm. I've still got bits to get hold of.

The exhaust manifold is being taken to a mate at the weekend to see if I can get a flange changed for a turbo i've been enquiring about, hoping that all goes well as the turbo's good for 440+ and a lot cheaper than rs2 turbo's etc.

btw my car was a little full up after a trip up north

I would write a full list out of all this stuff but as JJ know's its quite a long one

The big refit has started, these are some pictures from last week as I had to get the car so it could be moved to a different location ready for the suspension/drivetrain to be removed from it and s2 running gear fitted in the place. I've got a load more pictures if/when my mate sends me them as I had to use his camera as mine I thinks a bit dead

Top section of the dash is back in place, carpets in, rear seats, rear shelf, rear lights.

I still have a long way to go but i'm in no rush, I want it done right. There's a few other small bits i'm tempted to have a go at with the bodywork as long as its nothing too extreme.

                    few spider webs

i've fitted full s2 running gear to the car temporarily whilst my spare set gets blasted and cleaned up just to see what other hidden problems there are:

fitted back up and getting ready to stick it back in the corner

dropped bases off for these to be fitted 100% now

Sorry if text/replies are a bit out, as mentioned I copied this from another forum. Hoping to have the blasted/sprayed s2 running gear fitted and maybe the box first week next month. Got most bits for the car to put it back together but not in any major rush as I want it done properly.

A bit thanks goes to gav for selling me the car and aiden/quattronutter for the work and spraying the car for me, top notch work www.bahnstorm.net
