struggling to buy an S2, what should I pay? please help!

Ok I've got the cash waiting to buy an S2 now, and I'm really keen to get one, but don't want to pay too much! I'm after an ABY engined coupe, ideally with low mileage, what should I look to pay? I cant understand why the prices seem to vary so much.

this one seems mint, very low mileage at 80k, good spec, up for £4000

this one could be good but the pictures are useless, its done double the mileage at 155k and its up for £6000

Then theres alltype cars, the silver coupe is £5400 and the green coupe is £4300, both are similar spec ABY engined cars, is green an undesirable colour for an s2?? Which one of the cars I've mentioned is the bargain and which one is overpriced? Can anyone point out any other cars for sale or offer theirs?

the s2 on the classic cars web page is from an audi specialist near to me and they are very experienced with the older audis and good at what they do so would have thought that this would be priced right for what you get but thats just my opinion

I wont pretend to be very clued up on these cars, but i have been following the ones that have been for sale for a few months now, including the one mentioned and i actually thought that one was way overpriced based on the year/mileage compared to others that have sold. For example there were couple of very low mileage(60 odd) newer ones for pretty much the same price recently, like this one.

1st post link - not bad, missing the badge from steering wheel.

2nd link - am cars, always expensive cars but don't look too bad. They mostly deal with urq's.

First impressions for me, that looks a right dog,def not a mint example. Looks like an earlier 3b also. Nice miles (if its true) but buy on condition,NOT just miles. My advice for that money, carry on looking!!

Change over year k reg so you get the following:

privilidge of having to run a cat for mot
non ellipsoid headlights
from what i've been told a weaker 6 speed as its the first that audi produced
basically a aby engined and boxed 3b. - Providing that it is an aby as I know of at least one k plate thats 3b engined.

plus something just don't seem right about it, wheels unfortunately don't suit it unless lowered and with bigger brakes to fill them.

You normally find (as someone mentioned today) that the low milage one's are getting punted on just at the right time to cost the next owner anything thats on its way out. My high milage 3b - 171k when I got it, needed the dizzy gear on the distributor changing as I shattered it doing a launch on the way home from work one day - thats all I needed in a year and 20k of motoring/abuse.

check out the black centre dials as well (thats not right surely?)also the carpet and seats look mullered for an 80k car. Just looks a tatty example, prob a cheap p/ex thats had a jet wash and a few K added on price.

looks like may have a glass sunroof
either just been cleaned or somethings up with paint, check above door trim in first pic and above grill in second
black dials are probably to replace the stock which have peeled
gearknobs either the option one or aftermarket
@80k i'm surprised the rear numberplates that bad.
aftermarket exhaust by the looks of things
either its the light or it looks like its got two odd rear lights, check the reverse lights
no upper part to the aerial
wear on drivers seat
looks like the trip computer has bled out quite badly

yeah, that one for sale on auto-trader does look abit dodgey on closer inspection. The nearside front headlight looks to be out of place aswell and the trim below it is missing also, including all the other bits mentioned, probably worth a miss. Green certainly isn't my first choice of colour either.

The blue one from classiccarsforsale.co.uk is starting to look more appealing, just not sure at £6k, maybe if he'd had it up for a while he'd get shot for £5k, but it hasn't been on sale for a week yet! That minter on pistonheads for £6.5K with 55'000 certainly makes it look expensive aswel!

Oh really???!! the current advert age is only a few days old. I expect he keeps refreshing it though. Maybe he would be more temped by an offer starting with a 4

previous forum members car - speak to epic on here about it as he's owned it before the current owner plus its sensibly priced, wheels suit it and a nice all rounder.

It might be a 3b but I prefer them like some other forum members over the aby but its all personal choice.

nice and a rare colour, don't mention milage tho and have to tidy up front wings which ain't too hard.
