That's why the S6 is so tempting... it might be a V8 but I think it would actually be a better choice financially, not mentioning they tend to be much higher base spec.
Forget the 2.7TT, if I compare to the 3.0TDI Quattro - which is my sensible choice - it's £100/mo more in fuel (assuming 36 vs 18 mpg) but £35/mo less in insurance
and servicing costs seem comparable! The fuel cost would probably be offset by lower depreciation too...

Well, if you want to spend 6-7k to basically K04 or TiAL kit the A6 2.7TT, you can go right ahead.
Just get a manual gearbox version then.
The K03's will die at 100-150k anyway.
Will be a proper sleeper, but financially absurd.Leave a comment:

Hmm that's good to know, so now I only have two reasons not to buy a C5 S6.RS6 has a different box, that is fitted only to the RS6.
Don't buy the 2.7TT А6. Buy the S6 or A6 with the V8 instead. Will be more powerful and loads cheaper to run. 4.2 V8 > 2.7TT with K03's in every possible way and then some.
There is almost no difference in maintenance costs between a A6 2.7TT and a RS4. You might as well buy the RS4.
My reasoning for the A6 platform is that it will take 3 car seats for under 4 year olds in the back comfortably, which saves me having to buy a mini van. It would have been an RS4 other wise, don't rub it in

That is just briliant

RS6 has a different box, that is fitted only to the RS6.That's my logic too... I'm seriously looking at A6's, can't handle a 2.0 TDi in that size of car although that makes the most sense. I'd really love to get an RS6 but the running costs are just too high to stomach and don't want to spend that much, logic says a 3.0TDI quattro, would prefer the 2.7TT, but then for the same price you can get an S6...
Only things stopping me are (1) Laura will eventually need to drive it - need a valet mode with a 3k rev limiter
(2) Shared the same dodgy 'box as the RS6 right? (3) MPG

Not quite sure what this thread was about, but if its comparing running costs an RS4 is most definitely more expensive to run.
I have had two and to be quite honest the first one was a liability, it had 36k of warranty work in one year alone (admit-ably this was at Audi prices), as PRJ said earlier, they have so much that can wrong... I spent a fortune on EGT sensors.
Great cars though, loved them both, there not weekend toys though.. and cant be compared with an S2 or RS2... or Ur for that matter..

I didn't reply right way... the last few pages were added pretty quickly!
I will always hanker for an RS4 but never enough to trade my RS2 in for one. Perhaps the RS2 should be my wekeend car and RS4 as a daily hack, with an RS6 as the family car? I can dream...
I'd like one of those too Rocco - I've realised recently that I need one of them 10 car garages, the RS2 is never going but now the family soon won't fit in it as a weekend car it'd made more sense for me to get a coupe
I'm just reminding myself it's time will come again when the oldest is on a booster seat

+1.
I think no point to buy the RS6, better to just get a S6 and save a shedload of money.
With the autobox it's lazy, and it's going to make you drive like a grandma.
