thousands of little reasons to change your air filters

I just purchased this URS6 and i have been chasing a Wide Open Throttle (WOT) cut out. I originally thought maybe it was a coil/plug issue but just that didn't hold long since i have had those issues in the past. I chose to clean up the MAF and see if that helped out, I removed the hose and the top of the airfilter box and just started laughing!

needless to say cleaning everything up and installing a new filter seemed to sort the problem!

      WOW!!!

I've come across some duff air-filters in my time but that is by far the most neglected I've seen, I check the ones on my own cars ever couple of K miles. Still not your fault you inherited that one.

Bet fitting a new one helped performance.

Probably so much resistance in the airbox that the MAF hose was collapsing.

I wonder how much of that paper went through the engine??

That is shocking, normally expect people not to change the pollen filter not the main air filter

All that crap that went thru the MAF has most likely ruined it. I have it on good authority that a bad air filter will allow the sensor in the MAF to be "sand blasted" & cause it to fail.

Nothing really went through the maf, the metal mesh screens were both fully intact, there was however pieces of the filtere resting on the maf inhibiting performance and causing cut outs at any WOT pull. Turbo was still freely spinning and has no real shaft play, those maf screens certainly saved that turbo some time ago.
