or just use the mk3, cut all the irellevant metal out of the shell and perspex windows, track car for £500

plenty cheap ways to go matey

trailer yes, ideally a truck as trailers are a pain in the ahrse to store

    just my 2p worth!

Looking at this again now. Been looking at spending lots more on the suspension of the ur to track it, and find myself thinking why not just buy something that wouldn't make me cry if I damaged or crashed it, and with a roll cage for safety etc.

      Budget is 3K.

Think I've decided on a MK2 GTI but highly modded. Been of work after a knee operation and had too much time to think about it!

Have registered on the club GTI forum.....

If I factor in insurance and tax then it probably makes sense to get a trailer. Most cars are barely road legal anyway

          Shortlist to look at so far;

          Golf:

          Golf:
          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2907353234...84.m1423.l2649

          Civic:
          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008474702...84.m1423.l2649

          M3:
          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1509508240...84.m1423.l2649

          Clio:
          http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1509421264...84.m1423.l2649

The first golf looks interesting, but as ussual its a 4.5 hour drive away, 2nd one isnt much closer either.

The civic actually looks pretty good, but no rollcage, which I think would be a nice thing to have. No doubt could fit one. That engine is a screamer!

M3 looks good but probably out of my budget even if I can stretch it.

Clio is effective I'm sure, but somehow doesnt have the appeal.

The alternative is to spend some of the money fitting coilovers and sway bars to the UR.

I can probably borrow a trailer/truck from work for transport if I play it right!

Also looked at Porsche 944's but they're a mixed bag.

I want to buy something light that someone has allready spent a small fortune on really.

Yeh unfortunately civics are really good around the track.

I do a couple of track days a year in a friends 106 GTI, for what it is its great. Keeps up with plenty of different makes and models and are pritty cheap to maintain/run/tune. His has had the usual lowered lightweight 14" alloys, sticky tyres, also has full exhaust system and manifold and reporfiled cams, buckets and harnesses and has only cost him £1200 including buying the car.

Thanks, yes looked interesting, but I think it's sold. I also want 200bhp ish.

Maybe the reality is it will sit around doing nothing! But I really want to do some trackdays and have some fun.

Only place I've actually been is the Nurburgring, but Brands in 45 mins away.

I just picked up a CRX Vtec for £500 yesterday. Gonna fit WRC style studded tyres on it and mangle it on the ice this winter! Absolutley loveley handling, and it really is fast for what it is (having had 3 Mk2 16v,s previously amongst alot of other fun cars) So my money is on the Honda... Vtec just kicked yall (Still love my S2 more than anything though)

Only thing with hondas is they make bean cans look like quality metal.

They are made of **** and rust like nothing on earth.

CRXs are frightening to drive fast, I have helped with a few; B16, B18 turbo, B20 and a mate had a K20 CRX with approx 300bhp (the special K). Its like driving a go cart with a tin roof!

Exciting and great fun, dont hit anything though.

Integra DC2 can be had cheap now, they are nice, bit less snappy than an EG. Some right dogs out there though.

Yes, have seen a couple of DC2's on ebay etc for about 3k, mostly imports I think, was unsure of how sound they might be.

I think they have a special front diff as standard? Heavier though.

Honda's do seem good, but they do have a bit of a teenage ricer image!

Was looking at Club Gti and they do club meets and trackdays which is cool.

Need to look at honda forums i suppose.

DC2s all have front a LSD as standard, both UK and JDM.

If you buy a B16/18 swapped EG you want an LSD, having driven both there is no comparison. The open diff just lights up one tyre, the LSD is great coming out of corners.

Yup hondas are very JDM YO! And a lot have been poorly modded/ragged. Rear arches are the first thing I would look at on the body of EG/EG/DC2, they are often rusty/filled/painted over.

The ITR forum is quite good, some of the honda forums are like vwvortex or worse!
