Thanks for your input, that was more or less my thoughts, but looking forward to seeing it in the flesh, what's involved in fixing the 07k to the transmission ?

The 01e is a direct bolt on once you remove the top two holes on the bellhousing like they did in the group b days to allow for faster gear changes. No adapter, no hassle. Just bolt it up. Same for the 01x and 01a. The new b8 I hve not tried personally but I know it bolts up from customer experiences. It needs slight trimming too on the bellhousing but nothing major.1981 URQuattro with the TIAL GT35r.

I haven't tried yet, but my hunch is no. The 07k shares the bellhousing pattern with the 1.8T, and just like the 1.8t, I do not think it will fit on an 016. I'll try one of these days and report back1981 URQuattro with the TIAL GT35r.

Can't wait to see it!My personal car will see a lot of weight saving tactics like this. I am coming from a tall deck 2.5L that has 10lb heavier crank over the AAN (52 vs 42 for the 95.5 vs 86.4) as well as a 15lb heavier block with the 236 deck compared to an AAN. That would put my fully assembled 2.55L at almost 475lbs or almost 100lbs heavier than Seans motor. If I could cut 125lbs off the nose of the car, I would be thrilled.

As far as we can tell, no real rhyme or reason to which have forged or not. TTRS is the only sure forged crank.
Yes, the 07k has 1.5mm smaller intakes than the FSI motors, which makes for an easy upgrade by simply using FSI seats and valves for FSI spec valvetrain.1981 URQuattro with the TIAL GT35r.

Hey a couple of random questions I haven't seen the answers for... looking around the 'net it appears there are earlier lower-HP and later higher-HP versions of this motor (the NA one). Is there any internal difference between the two? I guess what I'm really asking is if I go looking for one to turbo and put in my car, does it matter?
Second question: in all the photos in this thread I haven't seen a crank position sensor (or trigger wheel) anywhere... does it have one?Be alert! America needs more lerts.

Stems are 6mm and the length is standard FSI length.
Elaw, the 60-2 trigger wheel is located behind the crank and sandwiches between the crank and flywheel. The hall sender is in the oil pan towards the rear. It is very nice with great resolution up to 9700rpm so far. It is a 4 oz piece that is another attempt by VAG to make this i5 as light as possible. Just plug in the values for the TB TDC and car starts up!

A few hicups on oiling issues, but they are sorted now. Results are looking promising. 570whp/512wtq on e85 at 25psi on bone stock head 90k head, carbon on valves included. Sounds proper. Needs more than the effective 1300cc inejctors we are running now to make more power and rev to 8500. Duty cycle is limiting to around 7300 in these vids. Still, good power band of aroudn 4200-7200
