Also remember that our old 5-pots use the same crank, both those which come with SM and those which come with DM. But these are all DM equipped engines AFAIK.

What power were these running? Fuel type? Maybe cheaper forging than our old school cranks?

        Its all about harmonics.
Would the new 5-cylinder benefit from a better harmonic damper then?

no, it is not the same crank...

secondly the ones that have been breaking are in transverse engine setups, its believed that there is a different strains being put on the engines and not having that extra mass is causing the failures.

not exactly, it has negative effects from removing the ones that audi put on there to begin with.

Power ranges vary, the picture shown only had around 400awhp. which is very mild for these engines.

What extra strain would a transverse or longitudinal have?

having an engine's crank aligned with the entire input shaft and transmission vs a transmission that has have a gear that turns it 90 degrees.

think about your tool box, when you use a straight extension on a wrench, then think about using the same extension and putting a 90 degree swivel attachment on it. do you feel like you're getting the same amount of torque? do you feel like it is trying to turn the socket in a different way?

Both the NA and turbo's have the same PN for the crank (except some of the early 10v's). Isn't it the same?

no, these are the TTRS engines, and the 07k engines, its a new casting, new part number. the TTRS crank has a gear as seen in the photo on the last page.

Nooo, you didn't get me. I'm talking about the old 5-pots, the 80-s, 90-s 5-pots.
