This one is too respectable for me. the 4 wheels all point roughly the same direction and it has one of those metal things under the bonnet that goes "vroom", rather than the elastic band you mentioned. It's obviously all been a big mistake. I'll not know what to do with it when I eventually take possession of it. Although my missus may have a suggestion regarding where I should stick it
The roses are a good suggestion. I secretly think she'll be OK when she drives it though. It'll be like the S2. She hated it for a year while I rebuilt it but when she got to drive it she changed her mind. Scared the sh*t out of me to be honest.
And aye, poor Kit. I'll need to figure out some way to truly repay him one day.

It no great bother mate, it nice to work on a car that's been looked after and it's not like I'm doing it for free. In 18 months time I'll be looking to go back to doing more mechanical work with a view to doing more interesting specialised jobs like this one, plus I've had a chance to have a good test drive and confirm I want my own one for a winter car.
That actually gives me great relief to know that it's not a bag of cr*p. Buying an unseen car online rarely turns out too well. thank god for friendly forum members eh?
You should pop over here at some point and drive it during a proper winter. I'm sure I can sort out some additional winter fun too. For starters my mate's snowmobile has a tendency to leave my flabbier bits a few metres behind when it takes off. It's like nothing I've ever experienced before. If a car took off like that I'd need a waterproof seat cover.

She's certainly no bag of crap, Phil got a real bargain when he picked it up, it's very like my Corrado in that it's only had a couple of owners who have looked after it well and it's never been mucked about with. Things like all the jacking points are straight and an undamaged under tray indicate a car that's been serviced with care as does a 25 year old fully functional air-conditioning system.
Me and my mate with the RS2 are seriously considering a Scandinavian road trip next year taking in a Gatebil event in Sweden then doing a clock wise lap of the Baltic back around to France and home. If we manage to organise it I'll try and pass through your area of Finland, we want to go right up to the North near the Russian border so I figure we'd be fairly close at some point.
And yep those sporty snowmobiles look to be a lot fun, must take some holding on to!

How bad are those sodding insects over there in the summer? I hear it can be worse than Scotland and that can get intolerable. Is there any interesting old disused military stuff in the far North or is that all on the Russia side of the border?

I have a funny feeling that all efforts towards buying a snowmobile will be out of the window when I present this car
and my mate definitely won't let me do that on his ridiculously expensive snowmobile. To be fair I messed myself up quite badly 2 winters ago just learning to snowboard so the chances are i'd really do some damage on one of those trying for 20' air

You were right, there are Gatebil events in Sweden as well, in Mantorp for example. The Gatebil event in Rudskogen Norway is the main event. Been there twice and it's great if you like fast cars and hot chicks Take your own booze with you though as it's very very expensive over there.
