    Marco, Steve,

JE have advised us of a 0.0035" to 0.004" piston to wall clearance.

I am inclined to wait till I have the pistons in my hand before I get the block rebored/honed just in case something goes wrong - like JE supplying them slightly different, not supplying them at all etc. I feel more confident waiting on them rather than specifying them what my block has been rebored/honed to.

      Response about NOS:

If it is a small NOS unit then it is not a problem...If it is more than a 75 shot of NOS the design does get changed...Of course they can all be done to accomodate NOS then you do not need to worry about it...

You might be right on waiting till having the pistons. I would still ask them pistons for 81.5 finished bore, then see what you get.

          Next response from JE:

Is there a difference in the design of the piston if we use the gapless rings or standard rings? Sometime..The ring lands are often different for the Gapless sets.

Can you give the options you have on coatings for the pistons? Can we get a ceramic coating? Can you give me prices for these options?
High Heat 2200 Degree Ceramic coating is $49.00 per piston and includes Moly coating on the skirts.

I have 4 people interested but only 2 of us want the same CR - they are all the same bore but one is standard(9.3), two are 8.7 and one is 8.1
Then those are 3 seperate orders as they require seperate blueprints and programs for each set.

In order to lower the compression ratio can you confirm you would lower the dish section but keep the deck height at the same position? Yes that is exactly what we would do...We never drop the piston down the bore to decrease compression. That is wrong....

The two of us that require the CR ratio lowered to 8.7 also require the 2 valve recess to be lowered 0.5mm to allow for higher lift cams. No problem BUT once again that is a different order....

$725.00 per set for the 2 sets that are the same and $775.00 per set for the other 2 that are different....You will save quite a bit on shipping sending the 4 sets all to the same address though.....

            Doug ;
As long as they seperated the orders; can you pls talk about me or should i talk with them about my application?
            what is the next step?

            -i accept the coating option
-i also want extra nos protection,if this is an option ok then

Timucin - I know you said that yesterday - I was testing them to see what they would say

I think the next step is to get Dave to send a piston. Then we can all reference that piston. I think he is sending it tomorrow.

We also need Dave to say whether he can post these cheaper than JE can. It might not be worth the hassle for Dave to do this.

I think Dave and Timucin should now get their particular specifications and send them seperatly to JE. I will try and sort out with Mark, a common piston for us.

Keep us posted, if you speak to them yourself. My name is Dougal Bennett if you want to refer to my emails. They are very prompt in replying to emails (that is a major step in getting peoples business - top marks to them for that - very professional)

                my specs then:

81.48mm diameter (one of my cylinders has been bored to 81.50mm to make sure the scores came out)

lowered dish to remove 4.2cc (9.3:1 to 8.7:1 CR change)

I am tempted to stay with standard rings - Mark - can you convince me to go gapless?

                ceramic coating

                valve recesses dropped 0.5mm

I hope myself and Mark can agree on a common design.

If youare wanting me to place all the orders I can but we will all need to phone to pay, as I can't afford 20 pistons!

Tell me what you guys are thinking?

                  Doug,

thats exactly the spec I want, I am tempted to go with the gapless rings but if that choice affects the ordering/discount in anyway I'll go with the standard conventional type rings, let me know.

Red hot and over-revved credit card waiting.

                  Cheers,

                  Mark.

You should just give your final exact cylinder bore to piston manufacturer.
JE and/or whatever piston manufacturer will know Piston dimension accordingly to give the correct clearances for your specific application (i.e. use and output).

My engine builder will bore to the proper clearance based on the pistons. I can go with whatever diameter and the builder will ensure a perfect clearance. Safer that way of the pistons come in a bit large/small.

Prefer to tell them to make piston for 81.50mm cylinder. Always best to leave the most metal on the walls.

Q2 Dave, Timucin - do you want the valve pockets recessed 0.5mm?

                            Doesn't matter to me.

Q3 Dave - can you better the delivery costs or should we just go with JE?

I will only be able to save everyone about $20USD - not really worth it I think...

I am waiting for a response on coatings and if the gapless and standard rings require different designs of pistons.

We would get a discount if we can agree on the same spec. So do you want gapless? Or standard rings? Someone said they might not last for high miles - that's why I am leaning towards standard rings.

Timucin - there is a fax number on one of my posts at the beginning of this. You should probably fax them your requirements and payment details.

Dave - should we just get JE to ship the pistons?

If you guys go with standard rings I may consider going with your specs. How will the lower CR affect off-boost driveability? Will I gain anything with a lower CR if running a little more than stock boost?

I would be happy to ship the pistons to each person. I am not sure which would be less expensive - shipping them to me and having me distribute or having 3 sets sent to one of you and having you distribute.
