OK, just to muddy the waters somewhat, I have been looking at some V1s today that have different part numbers and spring rates!

    Front struts

with what looks like 90n/mm springs:

    Rear struts

    with 70n/mm springs

so are these then old specs?
90n/mm seems super stiff for V1s, that like 500lb
Can't find any of the part numbers listed in any of KWs current catalogs etc

Yes, as I said above, doesn't smell right to me.

Their load notations seem to actually relate to the spring rates they use as I severely doubt there's a B4 that came off the production line with >950kg front axle weight. Softer springs may be used to give safer handling in this case, perhaps as a counter measure to the ARB differences...

We know however they are stating the Avant is 100kg heavier than the RS2 at the rear which does not account for the parts mention.

I've just switched between the avant and rs2 set and there is not 100kg difference!

This is my plan too, but I am DIYing it using Koni adjustables I've already got and taking a stab at spring rates

LOL, I know the feeling, just to have an S2 would be nice!

I think you might have got it the wrong way round, I meant the RS2 rear springs would be stiffer in theory to handle the extra BHP.

Transpires thats not the case anyway...

Softer springs give more understeer (and more squat, not less), so they've just been safer with the faster car. The ARBs are different on the RS2 but not by much and the stiffer front bar is going to make things worse. So, if you want more understeer then go for the softer rears on the RS2 setup

Right, I have a bit more clarification which I was happy with the sound of...
Basically KW are saying that the RS2 has what they call the 'P1' platform which is different to the 'B4' S2 Avant platform. The R&D was more involved with the RS2 at the time and the components used within the dampers for the RS2 is different to the S2 kits. The valving setup is different.

This to me seems perfectly feasible as to the reason for two different part numbers and slightly higher price for the RS2 kit.

Another thing to bear in mind that the components required to assemble an S2 kit are more available as they are used in other similar models too (non S2), where as the RS2 has its own unique components which is not shared with any other kits.

I hope this clears things up a bit?

    Many thanks

I agree with you, but I can't see why the rs2 is lighter, same chassis, same subframe, diff, wishbonnes, they have differrent uprights and brakes but not 100 kg weight difference

If i'm luck enough to have spare cash i'll get the rs2 kit though

Yeah I know what you mean, it doesn't appear to make sense but there must be some difference somewhere...

My personal opinion (feel free to correct me!) the RS2 is more powerful from factory as an S2, so perhaps they felt that the rears had to be a bit firmer to accommodate this when accelerating fast from stand still as the rear end does squat down on these cars right? And more power on launch = more squat!

Or shall I just quit whilst....
