        wtf?

very strange engine/tax laws you have in italy. How much extra per year is it to tax a car in italy if it is over 2 litre?

In the past cars over 2.0 here in Italy have not tax deductibility for who can have it, so this is why ABT have made first 100 S4 C4 ABT with AAN engine but 2.0 instead of 2.2 and then S6 C4 ABT.
Here a picture of the one I look for

Stating the obvious, the bore and stroke will be different thus it'll either be an NM derived engine or have a custom crank at a minimum, perhaps new lliners and pistons? Should be pretty revvy if it's shorter stroke and thus squarer than normal 2.2 with less torque. Be interesting to see for sure.

From what I know only piston stroke is less that a normal 2.2 AAN, sure also Motronic have different chip, max torque here is of 42,5 kgm at 3300 rpm instead of 35,6 at 1950 rpm, max power of 260 hp at 6100 rpm, this AAN is 1993 cc instead of 2226 cc, come from ABT full optional, only optional are 6 speed gearbox or automatic gearbox, ABT sport suspension, ABT 8Jx17 ET40 wheels with 225/50 or 245/40 tyres like RS2, leather seats and metallic paint.

How to make a 2.0L "AANM"

The NM was a 2.0L (1993 cc) version of the 7A (2.3L) sold in cars in Italy and Spain for tax reasons. Converting a 2.2 L AAN is very possible using factory parts.

                1. The NM short block PN 034100105J, is listed as 2.0L (but is probably 1993 cc).

                2. If an NM short block wasn't used, the NM crankshaft, PN034105021G, should fit.

                3. After VIN M000001 (i.e. start of the 1991 model year), the connecting rods, PN 027198401C, are the same for the 7A, KV, NG, NM, 3B and wait for it kiddies, AAN, ABY and ADU.

                4. The NM piston PN 034107065F, is 81.00 mm in diameter. The 3B, ABY, AAN, ABY and ADU piston PN 034107065M is 81.00 mm in diameter.

                5. NM connecting rod bearings, 034105701, are also 3B and ABY (and therefore AAN and ADU) connecting road bearings.

                6. The NM head PN 034103351B is the same as the 7A head PN. We know that 7A heads can be modded to fit on an AAN (or ABY/ADU) so swapping the AAN head on to the NM block should be okay (if that happened - more likely that just the NM crank was used).

Based on this info, it would appear that an "AANM" could be made by simply removing the AAN crank and installing the NM crank in the AAN engine, et voila, 2.0L "AANM"

                Who knew?

There has to be something more than just the crank, either longer rods or different pistons to offset the shorter stroke of the crank. My guess is the pistons are unique for the NM, and for this 2.0 AAN they would almost certainly be custom jobbies. Would be interesting to know what the CR is for an NM and for this motor.

The pistons might have to be swapped but the rods *are* the same. The NM is probably 10.3:1 (ish) like a 7A. Or custom, as you suggest.

NM block fits ABY/AAN/ADU perfectly however 7A you all ready know does not.
