Loss of RS2 to water, Gutted being the understatement
Take the 18K and crush it and forget, the rest of the RS2 will benefit from one less car in the road as rarity increases value! we are lazy *******s o spent every day sleeping in the sun (it´s true, we do!Haha!)
It's looking more like it as Friday draws closer that I will just take the money and live with the memories and then go lie in the sun on the beach in Portugal for a wee while making a good tan, however being from Scotland I'd need a week in the sun just to go from blue to white....
I don't think any salvage company will risk losing its licence over any back door deals . Plus no insurance company would risk the consequences of any part of category A car finding it's way onto another car . The legal implications would be serious .
A real shame about this car but regulations are there for a reason even though in our eyes they are too harsh in this case..
Well we are in a litigation world now so they simply cannot take the chance...
I think some people are missing the point of Cat A. In those circumstances the insurer and breaker have a responsibility to ensure that neither this car nor any of its bits ever end up back on the road.
What happens if you offer to accept their 18k minus salvage value and you retain the car? Do they just flat out refuse?
Yeah Andy this was the first thing I asked when they said they make me an offer, they flat out said it would be going to the squeeze box, they were very apologetic and said they "understood" my feelings, apart from the fact I saved up and looked for a very long time for one, but they are just a voice on the phone...
I don't understand how water damage makes it a CAT A????
It would be impossible in future to definitively say if the water effected an electrical component which went on to fail and started a fire in say an underground car park and the liability would rest with the insurer who assessed the car after it getting wet. They always think worst case scenario.....
There is also the contamination issue, ie poo and the like.
CAT A is crusher food only, nothing can be salvaged.
Ok sorry guys didn´t intend to make anyone do anything against the law, I don´t think a catA headlight would bring any harm to anybody, and about loosing their license....well the VAG group (those so serious German engineers! and I souppose others too)) had no trouble fooling everybody for profit!
People are people and people are naturaly greedy so if you really believe that the insurance and crusher people are such serious people than I apologise for this and my previous post!

If it was me and I had bought a car for 18K and spent some more in maintenance and repairs because I wanted to keep her I would try to get the most out of it to recoup my loss, is not like is puting a bent chassis back on the road it´s just pieces!
I know I´m from Portugal and the rest of europe think we are lazy *******s o spent every day sleeping in the sun (it´s true, we do!Haha!) but would like to be a fly and see the crusher guys taking some pieces out of the car for a profit behind the "I´m so honest" image!
I think the previous 2 post are full of false ingenuity, everybody breakes the law sometime why else do we have such powerfull engines if the speed limit is 65mph(to get there fast I suppose!) If it dosen´t harm anyone the law dosen´t apply and if you can bend it please do!
Crush a complete rare desireble car because it went for a swim......C´MON!
