Today was cleaning day.. Glas blasted most of the aluminium parts i'm going to send to paint next week. Looking for a colour as close to raw aluminium as possible (original look). Took me about 5 hours to finish but it will be so good looking when painted. Also picked up a timingbelt kit (RS2) with reinforced lower gear.
    Some pics of todays work.

Before glas blasting, only did the aluminium parts today:

    Intake and coil cover:

The parts will be painted so don't mind the coulour being a little bit different in the aluminium.

Also got myself a timing belt kit especially for RS2:

Hopfully i will have te engine back from the engine workshop tomorrow, then i can start with painting and cleaning of the engine block.

Apparently the pistons on the 1.8 golf are identical. Breakers yard calling?

Yeah, i think i will look for a new piston, otherwise i will not be calm. Hard to explain the situation. I used a hammer and a rod to just drive down the rod bolts the first mm's and the piston slapped against the rod when i was knocking the bolts in, i didn't see it or reflected about it until i saw what happend.. Sometimes **** happens.

Thanks! Yeah lots of cleaning and painting to do. I will probably get another used piston to replace it with. Most people says it won't effect anything if I smooth out the damaged area. We will see what I choose to do.

Started to work on the engine today. Cleaning bearing surfaces and beraring caps. So tomorrow i will leave it to the engine shop for measurement of the clearences. They will also hone the cylinders, maybe resurface the block deck also to get a fresh surface for the head gasket.

    Bolts out from the conrod:

I was using a hammer and a rod to knock out the old bolts. To insert the new ones i used the same metod at first but it was hard to get the new bolts in place. Much easier to put the bolt in place using the rod cap and nuts to force the new bolts in place.

While i was using the hammer/rod method to put the new bolts in place the piston slapped against my rod (gently) so i wasen't thinking much of it more then the sound it maked. But when i looked up i saw that the piston crown had got some bad marks.. Of course i will talk to the engine builder company what they think of it tomorrow, but i would also like to hear opinions from the forum.
What do you guys think of it? do i need a new piston or can i make up for my stupidity some how? Damn i feel angry right now..

45764-a34d3c9e06b33c4becc511788df695a2.jpg Block with bearings in place, bearing caps tightend to 65Nm. Will clean the block more when i get it back from machine shop. For now i cleaned the bearing surfaces. The previous owner has cleaned the block befor also, but i want it cleaner.

Garage and work tabel cleaned today. Will put new bearings in/torq it down and leave it to the machine shop who will measure the clearence of rods/main bearings. Also a honing of the block will be done. The previous owner already collected lots of new parts. The head has been serviced with new valve seals/valve guides and so on. Hopfully i can leave the engine parts for measuring/machining this week. Then the work with cleaning/painting engine block and parts starts.

The guy i bought it from have done a good job cleaning most of the engine parts. Happy for that.

Hi! It's from Stockholm, has been stored inside a garage so it has not been standing on grass =)
