    • So, started fixing more uinderneath the car

Got my 3M products for protecting the underbody of the car, the product seems quite good actually and easy to cover when you get the hang of it.
The plan isnt to run a thick underseal layer like it came from factory since this car will be a sunday drivers car and not going to be used in the winter.

I will still add a bit extra protection around the rear part of the car where the exhaust is going (which was the part of the car where it had rusted a lot).

Actually quite stunned by how tiny amounts of rust it was under the car (for a car that has been driven in salty roads in europe and scandanavia for its whole life ).

A thin layer of the product was added, the product is quite expensive but I'll reckon it will hold with the amount of bags I bought.
Currently used 3 bags of the 15 I bought..

      • I am stilling missing some seal plugs / bungs / draining bungs/sealant plugs for the chassi so I can't cover everything at the moment,
I will receive the last parts within 2 weeks probably so I can finish spraying it then.

The finish looks quite good, spraying with 2-4 bars from around 20-25cm and a bit closer in the corners.

        • Got some help this evening from some friends, I have on purpose not pulled out the wiring harness,
found it to be a bit too much work to get it pieced up together again. It did not look like a job I wanted to do solo.
Got so much other stuff to do with the car so will use the original loom until I'm going custom EFI setup later on.

Anyway, got some help and we decided to spray the rest of the car, sprayed 2-3 coats of epoxy under for good coverage (have to grind some down).
Sprayed 2 layers of epoxy in the engine bay, any more and it seems like it would become a bit too thick. 2 layers was good solution, fills some but
          still makes it look decent.

          IMG_20220520_215207.jpg IMG_20220520_230455.jpg

Will wait at least 24-48 hours before I will starting spraying more off the 3m underseal.
The result came out quite good for the first layers, it didn't turned out perfect but quite close for a home spraying.
Will have to clean up the shop and make a temp paint-area before applying color + clearcoat.

Still trying to decide if I'm going colors original car under the car on top off the 3m undercoat.. OR .. if Im going all black with semi-gloss shine clearcoat..

Think I'm starting to want to have it in color after all this work has been done to it black would be the smart choice ;/

                  • Hi Lars, Newsh and S2_avant

                    Re: "Magic Top-mounts" (post #211)

                    newsh and @S2_avant

Thanks for your kind words about Strut-Stops gentlemen. Satisfied fellow forum members can be great product adverts. It is gratifying to be able to provide a product that has been deemed useful.

                    Lars,

You PM'd me back in 2020 and we had a detailed discussion about the Strut-Stops mod for top-mounts (which might still be in your forum in-box). New stock top-mounts installed to include the Strut-Stops mod certainly are not magic, just very particular original mounts (which you must supply) reinforced and independently proven effective and durable (no reported user mount failures since mod debut in 2016).

Strut-Stops prevent your struts from inflicting the well-known ordinary day-to day damage to the metalastic components of the top-mounts, yet still allow the mounts to act as very effective NVH filters. They also ensure pot-hole strike loads are safely dispersed radially from the chassis' top-mount receivers and spread widely and harmlessly into the entire domed form of the inner fenders.

If you don't remember or don't still have our previous conversation...

Here's a link to some (required reading is via the link to an external ad on Kijiji (press "see more" at ad to view lengthy product overview) in the linked forum thread (below) in post #1; and the entirety of posts #39 and #40) material right here on the forum about Strut-Stops including links to pricing, photos and which particular mounts:

If you want/need yet more info, simply put Strut-Stops in the forum search function and get much more (some theory and why they pair well with sister product Arm-Stops).

What do I need and when can you provide it?

                        • I have fitted Lago's mod on two cars now and I'm very happy. I couldn't get the original BOGE mounts last time from Audi but the Sachs ones appear identical (they are the same company now) and seem more substantial than the Meyle ones. Very easy to fit and no issues at all so far.
Car is looking great underneath. Nice work

Best ask Lago to send you some pics. I don't want to give away any of his design secrets. Basically they work by reinforcing the oe bush to prevent it from deforming over time. Simple, effective and clever.
