Late night last night that i am paying for today but i completed stripping out the cabby harness and separating functions from the cq harness that i am keeping. None of the scraps are getting thrown away though just in case lol.

This is what's left of the cab harness. I have a few repairs to make from the 90s-tastic alarm install lol.

I only have 1/2 a roll of the fiber tape so there's gonna be a delay before i can complete the final harness. I will also rig up somethi g so that i can test the function as it will be infintely easier now to diagnose/fix now that it will be in the car!
The last thing i did last night was to swap the original speedo/odo and fuel guage into the b4 instrument cluster. This will keep the car's mileage accurate as well as the fuel guage.

At any rate, it will take a few days for the tape to arrive but hopefully this is all sorted by the end of the weekend.

Right, potentially fateful decision made.
I have successfully removed the powered roof from cabby harness and separated the rear body harness from the cq.
I have decided that i will be opening the harnesses up in order to separate the functions. Seat heaters are gonna go, the powered cq seat harness is pretty chewed up but i need to transfer the power and grounds to the cabby harness, i am keeping the cabby central locking/alarm but the harness is taped into the rest of it so needs to be opened up and separated.
the remainibg question in my head is related to the windows. Schematically, the front windows are the same but i THINK physically the relays are in different locations. So i may be transferring cq window control as well.
a lot of unwrapping to be done.....
that said, this is one of the easier swaps i have done because at least the platforms are the same so a lot less interpretation of schematics is needed lol
Basically, trying to keep as much b4 as possible.
Edit: got some time today between meetings. Cq harness now com0letely separated and everything i need to remove from the cabby harness is out. All except for one last thing that will be a bit of a nightmare. Seat heating. Still on the fence. Will have to see how much it will cost me to get elements into the porsche seats. But if i don't keep them, it's gonna be a bit of a chore getting the wiring out of the cabby harness. No matter what though i need to separate the powered seat part from the cq seat harness as it has the proper guage wire to power the seat motors in the porsche seats. So, another night's worth of wire pulling but then i can actually put one harness together and start mending any breaks.Last edited by ottawa coupe; 6 January 2025, 20:25.Leave a comment:

Well, wiring is not too terrible so far. Got the autotragic removed from cabby and i believe have the starter circuitry sorted, got the diff lock separated from the coupe abs wiring and ready to transplant into cabby harness. Got the coupe body harness removed from the fuse block. It is a bit of a mess though, i may have to use the cabby harness for at least part of it. We'll see how well it cleans up and how many broken wires there are. I will also remove the seat heaters because we all know they'd be broken even if i did have them lol.
main target today is to separate the power roof wiring from the cabby harness and see what the differences are afterwards. That will determine if i will modify the cab harness to the coupe or xfer the whole thing.
my preference is to use as much as the cabby stuff as feasible as it is in MUCH better shape. They're only 3 years apart but either the materials are better on the cabby or somehow the coupe's storage situation degraded things. I am finding that the coupe's connectors are VERY brittle and have broken a few of them as a result.
Edit: spaghetti madness!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on.
I also need to tackle the wiring on my car too!
Jase.

Due to my bank accounts christmas annihilation, the cnc learning curve has to take a break for a coupla pay cycles..... So, the next nightmare begins. Wiring integration.
the broad strokes i with will be to replace the cabby body harness with the coupe one and remove the wiring for the automatic trans. The devil will be in figuring out how they did that originally and how to replicate it with what i have. I do have the offucial cabby wiring diagrams but the coupe ones are an amalagamation of bits i could find. Hopefully enough to cobble all of this together.
lotsa space on the floor to sort it out at least

It was definitely a bit of relief! A bit of a sidequest at the moment but i think this whole cnc mill thing has a bit of potential....
This is only the second attempt at machining ever... not terrible...

Still soooooo much to learn....
Will play with the mill for a while and atcthe same time, need to merge the wiring harnesses from the cabby and coupe.Leave a comment:

While i much prefer the look of euro bumpers, i'd prefer not to eat the engine in a crash! A burly aluminum bar is a nice thing to have in an environment of terrible drivers in the land of SUVs and pickups!
at any rate....

and the state of the workshop as a result.... much cleaning to do now!!!!

Shame you can't get euro bumpers, so much easier to work with, and way lighter/easier to remove.Leave a comment:

Sooooo frustrating. It's gotten cold and the filler isn't curing very quickly as a result.
i got everything sanded down and decided to get primer on the fenders while i wait for the filler cure on the bumper. With a bit of luck, the body will beassembked in primer in a couple of days.

Turns out i was mistaken about the fenders and i managed to get them prepped pretty quick this evening. Ran out of primer though.
20241226_193551.jpg
So i started on the final main piece, the front bumper.
20241226_193558.jpg i'll need to spend time getting this cleaned up and get some paint on it. This will take effort given it's not very good condition as well as dealing with my headlight washer deletion.
I'll get all these parts on the shell now i think then take a break for a bit. The shop is a disaster as a result of this work and i need to get on to other things. I'll pick it back up in a few weeks after to deal with the rear seat delete and the battery tray.
Oh ya, and all the stupid little trim pieces!Leave a comment:

Well, i was a bit premature with the pic above. A small spot in the middle kept cracking the paint, took 4 attempts of sanding and painting that spot to get it right. Must have has some contamination i had to get thru. I must say thought that i may just do the other hood in the spring and this one had a fair amount of hidden damage beneath the paint.
20241226_140144.jpg
Meanwhile, i got the insides of the fenders cleaned and rust treated and dealt with the bumper surround.
20241226_140057.jpg
As much as i'd like to say i am on the home stretch now, the front bumper itself is in very rough shape and both fenders have some surface rust in a couple corners to deal with and get smooth. It's going to take some time and effort....Leave a comment:

Thanks, i found a link here for a how to but all the pics are dead. I'll do more looking but it seems it's basically make a tool out of a socket to release something and it comes apart.
At any rate, christmas goal looks to be achieved

I didn't take and specific photos of the mirrors but here are some cropped pictures where you can kind of make them out.
