On a side note, the Range Rover brake pads look close in overall dimensions to the S2 G60 according to online supplier diagrams. Even if some "adjustments" were necessary it would open up a wider choice of pads as finding pads for G60's can be a challenge.
on the pics pad 21288 is the OE S2 pad. The second one 23452 is Range Rover.

I have been researching an OE looking replacement caliper for S2 G60's for a long while now. My latest findings are to try the 2 pot caliper from the Range Rover P38 (1995 - 2002, and same as Discovery 2 1999 approx). These are virtually identical to G60's. I've bought a new caliper for detailed measurements but I haven't got around to checking it as my S2 is blocked in by other project cars. These calipers also feature bigger pistons giving a small improvement over G60.
I don't have a Range Rover mounting bracket for this caliper so hub mounting bolt dimensions are unknown. It would be worth your time to visit your local scrapyard and grab a caliper with mounting bracket for a few bucks.Last edited by 5cylinderman; 25 October 2024, 02:29.Leave a comment:

So, buddy backed out. Wants to buy a clapped out one in toronto for the same asking price who's sills are totally rotted out.... go figure.
I guess that means i press forwards....
So i should probably get the s2 hubs while available. I may need some g60 calipers if the one pair i have found locally doesn't work out, anyone have a pair they want to get rid of?
I have to do the fall cleanup (2 acres of leaves to collect
) this weekend but then i guess i suck it up and deal with this thing...
I'll try n sell for a lot more once it's done??Leave a comment:

Right, i have located everything i need should the car stay.
the guy who looked at it over the weekend says he'll get back to me in a day or so. Other guys expressing interest are logistically a lot less feasible (need to get the shell and all my parts halfway accross the country).
If it hasn't sold by the end of the week, i will get a temporary shelter so the it can be stored protected but outta the way. I'll then be able to slow right down, eventually get the desire back, and it'll be fine. I think what was the real killer of the enthousiasm was the whole legality thing. Now that i have found a way out it changes things dramatically.
Kinda sucks but there's a buncha more important things i need to sort out than a THIRD project car....Leave a comment:

So, i am cautiously optimistic i have sold the car. We shall see in a few days.
That said something that has happened only yesterday afternoon is news that there's a source for s2 front hubs for the next while. This means i can get s2 brakes on it and get out from under the cloud that is the looming saftey inspection issues. I can find the rotors easily on spareto but the calipers are suddenly unicorn tears. Of course i tossed BOTH sets of 2 poston calipers (coupe and cabrio) because they were "worthless".
Not anymore?
Anyone got a pair they wanna sell to help a brother NOT break the law???Leave a comment:

At a crossroad here. I have put it up for sale in hopes i can get my space back. Losing motivation right now.
That said selling a project in its current condition is highly unlikely so sort need to keep going.
I need to get the door jambs primed so i can mount the doors and thus get the outside done easier.
The question is: how to clean up and prep the hinges properly so they take paint? But atcthe same time i'll hafta get grease in them later. I don'tcthink they come apart though?
Suggestions are appreciated.Leave a comment:

I must say that i dislike how parts suppliers can't seem to keep their inventory up to date in the information age. Ordered the seat cushion, paid my money and that all was well. This afternoon i get a message that nope, they are NLA. So had to hop on ebay and pay 2x as much for the last one outta latvia....
Goal for the rest of this week is to get rid of the last of the blue in the door openings. I need to get that out of the because....
I am picking up an old cnc mill this weekend. Much to learn... many late nights in my future i fear. I suppose i need to make a cover for it once i start on all the panels....
At the very least i will be making caliper adapters but the list of things i want to make is exploding....Leave a comment:

The lack of seats was beginning to bug me so i started searching for solutions that would not result in me driving 11 hours.
I have seen mention of mk3 golf seats fitting right in and wouldn't you know it, the local scrapper has a mk3.5 cabrio in the yard.
So i hopped in the car this morning and luckily the seats were still there and in decent shape. The driver's cushion is crushed but it looks like i can get new ones still.
Popped the passeger side in and yup, no fuss no muss just slides right in. It is perhaps a touch high but a tall seat is better than no seat right now.
Will order up the cushion tomorrow and pull the airbags out of the seats and i should be good to go.

Well, i think i like procrastination and beer drinking more lol.
20241005_161718.jpg on the one hand, the blue was an excellent guide coat. On the other that was many hours to do the big areas, many hours to go for the door openings and smoothing of the 2 bad areas.
Even worse, i am now really second guessing the colour.... maybe i do a white of some sort with some colour changing flakes??? A poor man's pearl white as it were.Leave a comment:

Procrastination defeated...

the nightmare begins. I must say though that everytime i unveil a new bit of pearl from underneath the blue, my heart tugs at spending vast sums money i don't have on a pro job to redo it in pearl.....

The end of procrastination is near?? Got the bare metal spots etch primered at least and masked off the sills. I am gonna mask off the interior tomorrow to minimize the cleanup needed after the sanding, filler, sanding, priming, sanding nightmare begins.
Oh goodie.

Saugerties. So no, nowhere good lol. I think it's just a dude clearing out a stash built up 15 years ago.
And yeah, no one SANE messes with these anymore
. Seems that every part search is a reminder that this has to be my last build....
And yes, the procrastination on sanding has continued!!!! The kids brought home a slight cold from their first few weeks at school. That's my current excuse and i'm sticking to it lolLeave a comment:

Well, found a pair of good b3 ones for a decent price.
5 hours away in upstate new york. Getting away to make the trip is gonna take some doing but will likely be the best answer....Leave a comment:
