Getting this adhesive off isn't easy.

This is the only stuff that seems to work. Hope it doesn't melt the material.

First proper drive to get the tracking done. Just over 9 miles to the garage and engine running sweet and boosting properly but I need to sort the exhaust touching the body.

I'm getting better at basic set up with string.
This is how it was before adjusting.

On the way home I made a detour to get some quality super unleaded.
I'd forgotten how big a tank the Quattro has! It wasn't even full when I stopped at £100.

Did you try ordinary petrol to get by the glue off?
The Ur quattro tank is huge!Comment

No but thanks for the tip. These are the side panels from the boot. I will test a small area first

Filling up a Ur from practically empty is a financial endeavour these days. I used to brim them on the ‘protect the tank’ methodology but modern fuels also don’t have the longevity. So now it’s only brim the tank if you know you’re going to use it in the next couple of months…. Why has life got so difficult?
PS
Fantastic job Dave…

I took her to a local Classic car show this morning. I got lots of interest. Unfortunately I was the only Classic Audi there. A few nice golfs
mind.

Yes. She is going good.
So I did 60 miles in her yesterday so I put her up in the ramp to check everything is still tight and see if I can fix where the exhaust is touching the body.

Appears to be contacting in two places. The one on the rear diff carrier is the one making the most noise. I have had a little tweak and will have to see if it makes any difference. There isn't much i can adjust unfortunately.
I also got around to fitting the oil cooler air guide. I know the screws aren't right but I didn't have any stainless big enough.

She is looking good underneath. No leaks and everything still tight. Very very slight play in rear nearside wheel bearing (new) so may just torque that a little to see if it nips up.

Took her for another spin. Nearly up to 100 miles now!
Anyway, main exhaust knock fixed but discovered another issue. Off side rear brake light stopped working. A quick investigation revealed this plastic melted and a poor contact.

A quick search revealed the bulb holders are nla and mighty expensive second hand. A quick text to the Oricle (Newsh) who suggested a self tapper. So drilled out the part that connects the contact to the board.

And added a self tapper.

And we have light!

A rubber cap added on the back of the screw to prevent any nasty shocks.

I found that a tractor fuel tank sender can be used to fix the one on the Ur. They are almost identical and both made by vdo.

I had to drill the spot welds out to remove the parts I needed from the tractor one.
Then some testing.

And now almost 200 miles so time to change the oil. I used a flush first.

Before I dropped the oil I wanted to check the co2. It smelt a little rich but analyser says it's good.

Oil didn't smell of petrol so I think we are good. Quite grubby though for 200 miles. It's done it's job.

New filters and synthetic oil.

Good for a while now.
