Thanks everyone. Interior is very good. Just a small hole in the drivers seat.
The car was dry stored since 1992 and this is confirmed by the online mot history. The mileage is just 71k and looks genuine by pedal wear. Unfortunately, all service books and owners handbook have been lost.
There is some rust and the paint is unfortunately poor. Lots of small scuffs and marks all over and offside wing and bonnet have been resprayed and are blistering. Aftermarket sunroof sadly.
The rust so far is door bottoms and wells in boot. Up on the ramp today to have a poke.
It's had some 're commission work recently with brakes, clutch, meter head, fuel pump, timing belt all done. Not running very well and coolant is full of rust. Exhaust leaking.
So plan is to give it the full Tractor Dave experience with new shocks, bushes and make-up.
The parts list so far, anyone?
Good coolant bottle.
Old style Miltek or stainless exhaust.
Black right boot carpet (side).
Owners handbooks and blue folder circa 1982.
Working ariel.
Original radio.
I was hoping it wouldn't need a re spray but sadly I think it will.
Long project thread incoming.

The cat is out of the bag... That's quite a find, 71K is nothing for a car of that age, pity about the aftermarket sunroof but not the end of the world. If the cam belts been done I'd check it's not a tooth out if it's running roughly, though I expect you've already thought of that. The last one I did on a 7A came with the wrong size idle pulley which if I'd used it would have resulted in it being on the piss by about a tooth so I had to reuse the old one. You can only trust your own eyes when it comes to stuff like that these days if the work was done by a random garage.
I might have an old style blue plastic VAG foulder somewhere in my stash of documents etc from cars I've broken, though I can't help with the books. I'll have a rummage later see what I can find.
You could make your own exhaust, all the boxs and bends you could want are available from Jetex in stainless steel, thats how I did my S2 which came out better than I expected and it cost fractions of what a decent ready made system would cost. Only tricky bit is getting over the subframe, though I used 3" pipe, it would be much easier with 2.5" or 2.75".
New clutch is a bonus!
I hope you don't find too much rust after your experience with your last one.

Cheers Kit. A blue folder would be a good start.
So, up on the ramp this morning and it's all good news. After the rust I had to deal with on my Ocianic Ur, it's like new!
Everything rubber is looking sad.
I dropped the coolant. It's not quite as bad as it looked in the bottle as red anti freeze has been used. I will flush it a couple of times then use some cleaner before adding new antifreeze.
It was not surprising that there was no reverse. Lucky I have a spare.
Oil cooler is amazing condition as has the air duct.
Not surprising that the exhaust was blowing.
There is a massive hole in the crossover pipe.
