Concerning the fuel pump, I always remove the fuel pump relay and fit the brass jumper wire. This bridges and sends 12v to the pump.

Looking forward to your write up on testing the fuel pressure as I’ve never done this.

PS The tank has been mentioned but there should be a pre pump fuel filter on that car which will be a good indicator as to the condition of the tank. So if it has rust in it then the petrol tank needs to come out.

However, the air screw on the throttle body isn't very tight

You might want to secure that, we had one blow/fall out under full boost a few years back, they’re a pig to find a replacement.

Did some internet research and found the Wr engine has got vac to wastegate top. I wonder why?

On our WR took out the Fuel Sender & then can look see that any inner metal area that was "above" the Petrol level was red with rust probably due to condensation... WR Tank has at the bottom a inner fuel outlet designed as a pocket that will just collect all the crap & without opening up the Fuel Tank is not possible to clean out .. solution was to cut open the back of this WR fuel tank & do a proper job...in my case by a professional.
But i was to late the crap has got through into the fuel system inline filter was over loaded & smooth running is still not sorted ..Dave yes please supply as much info as possible we appreciate.

So. I soaked the aux air valve in wd40 overnight and actually got the little flap inside moving when prodded with a long screwdriver. However, when connected up to 12v it's still not moving at all. It's meant to be open on start up and slowly close when powered up. So, looking for a replacement.
Onto fuel. Opens up the tank for a look.
Not too bad considering.




So I drained the fuel in there which came out quite clean. I will swill some fresh petrol around and drain that then re fill with nice new shell super.
The sender had a clean while I was there but the seal is old and dead. I've ordered another.
Underneath isn't so good and I've found that the pre pump fuel filter has been deleted and the pipe work is a bit of a mess. I have pics of my blue Ur set up and will be getting it back as it should be.



I've been busy ordering parts this morning. As well as service items, I bit the bullet and ordered the non resonated Miltek. Grin. Now I'm really skint.

So Dave, do you think your aux air valve is permanently open? If you block off the pipe does the car idle better? Does the WR have an idle speed control valve as well?

Yes, I think it's open all the time. I haven't tried running again as I'm doing lots of other bits and also waiting for parts and a pre pump filter. Keep you posted
