Glad you got that screw out in the end!

I was going to suggest using a dia grinder if the the drill bits still wouldn't cut, though you should be supprised by how good those Aldi bits are when you come to use them on other work.

I have a couple of US Pro air tools, they're very good quailty for the money so that leak down tester should be a nice realiable tool. Mine's a Sealy one and it was bloody ex*****ive, not something I used often but very handy to have and can make all the difference when trying to diagnoise odd faults.

You can never have enough tools, there's always some new bit of kit I'm eying up.

All the sump bolts got a soak in rust remover.



And after some Bilt rust converter, some zinc.

Got a few hours in the garage this morning.
Put some protection in place before I start cleaning.


Removed a few things that were in the way and got the wire wheel out.




After a good scrub and de grease I used some of my favourite stuff for doing this.


This will take 48 hours to work.

Those Bently manuals are amazingly useful, nice find! Hope you got a bargain as they're normally something of an investment, I've picked up copys for all my cars or as close as can be aquired over the years apart from the C4 which is divided into three seperate books making it stupidy expensive.

It wasn't a bargain but like you say, a future investment.

So, this afternoon got most of the back end stripped. Just the heat shield and brake pipes left before I start cleaning. Not looking forward to that.


This stuff is very good.


Anyone have a good one of these? It's the rubber grommet the fuel lines pass through.


And I think this pipe is leaking if anyone has a good spare.

It's the pipe that runs from the side of the bomb up to the brake booster.

The brake pipe all came undone easily apart from one. I'm replacing them all anyway so it's not a problem.



And the fuel pipes are really good. No need to make new. These will just get a run down and some epoxy.


This little captive nut is still causing me grief. I may have to drill out the spot welds.

Quick question Dave - my car is missing the wee triangle of carpet in the passenger footwell just in front of the lower edge of the door, does the bonnet release catch screw in on top of it to hold it in place? Thanks, Davy.

I think I'd try building up a bit of weld on that cut off bolt and try welding something to it to get it moving, give it short bursts of the MIG on high power, let it cool down a bit and see you can get the sod out. The intense heat from the weld will probably free it off and it would avoid having to drill out all those spot welds.

The underside looks in amazing shape, now you've got the fun job of cleaning it, hazmat suit/overalls, googles and a mask.
