Yes, I got it back after a week. You take the v5 to the post office with another form declaring its mot exempt and they send off for you.

I'd never heard of a tumbler before, look like an interesting device. I wonder how well it does on the thicker stuff. I take it you have given up on the blasting cabinet. They do make a bit of a mess and with electricity prices at the moment they are not cheap to run, as it really does take it out on the compressor.

Base temporarily sorted.

I made a start cleaning inside the boot.
The nearside is going to need a patch welding in.

The offside isn't bad at all.

So after cutting out the rot in the boot, I found a bit in the gusset plate as well. I will need to cut that out too. Could have been a lot worse mind.

And before welding I thought I had better disconnect the ecu. Oh dear, looks like I'm going to be busy here as well. Several wires have been cut. I wonder why and what's not working?

Onto welding.
A template was made from card.

And a patch cut.

Got the welder ready but just discovered I'm out of weld through primer. Doh

I will now only use my sand blasting cabinet outside, and I only use it for five min's at a time to give the compressor a break, I like the tumbler idea for small parts like fixings...
Do those cut wires look concerning, I wonder why so many have been cut, I'm surprised it runs at all with that many snipped off.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

Check the wire colours against Phill Payne's website, something weird going on.

I think there’s only several wires that you need to make it run, but agree with Kit, that’s at best, slightly alarming. Also, remember our conversation about this era being very much a transitional period for the quattro from homologation to road car, so the wiring will be very specific to the build year and chassis number. It’s likely to have anomalies between BU82&83.85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep

My 84 ECU loom has some spare wires in it, there's actually a duplicate sensor plug near the WOT enrichment valve on the firewall that does nothing at all.

Cheers John. Concentrating underneath the car for now. Will move to that later. It's easier to do stuff in the car when it's off the ramp and I can fully open the doors. Having fun welding the patch in the boot today. A small patch got a bit bigger when I discovered a bit more rust and I rediscovered how much fun welding thin metal is
