Cut the rusty bottom out of the radiator cowl and made up a new section.
I think I will plug weld this to as the metal is very thin. A butt weld would be very difficult and probably not end well. I can use my joggler on the repair section so it fits in snug.

My B3 has a metal cowl and that was manufactrued in 1989.
Cheers.
Annoyed with myself as I didn't remove the one from the white 3b coupe I broke last year.
Anyway, I welded in my little repair section at the bottom of my rad and quite pleased how it came out. No holes blown through during welding as I only welded where I had two pieces of metal overlapped. It's very strong.
My home made heat shield got some high temp paint.
And the fuel pump etc is coming together. I'm using new stainless fittings and new parts wherever possible. Fuel pump is relatively new.

Before I start connecting fuel pipes I wanted to remove the fuel tank. It's not difficult on a Ur.
It very grubby in the boot and there is a little rust at the back seam. The brown marks on the sides are adhesive, not rust.
So I gave it a good scrub.
And the rust got treated.
Tank got cleaned and treated ready for some fresh paint.
Now this is interesting if you have a Ur. The fuel tank sender is nla and difficult to find. As it happens, my John Deere tractor (made in Germany circa 1988) uses a very similar sender and they are still available new.
Now I need to find some 15mm petrol proof pipe to replace the breather at the back of the tank.

Now, rear top mounts are nla and like rocking horse poo. My old ones are good but the bearing is shot. New bearings and we are good to go.
For reference, rear old bush next to new front. The rear bush is much shorter on the Ur.

Weather in west Wales has been horrible and constantly wet. I need to paint the boot before the tank goes back in and humidity is way too high.
Just been tinkering and finishing a few other little jobs in the meantime.
These seals are very expensive in the UK. Quattro tax I think they call it. The Audi part number cross references with this ATE part and it's an excellent fit. Available from Autodoc for a couple of pounds each.
You can see where the old seal had been leaking.
