Unfortunately one of the washer jets sheared it's bolts on re entry. Anyone have an off side spare? Or I will have to try and fix.

Once apart, the front bumper got a good scrub. Both front and rear bumpers are original and have 1982 build dates. Nice to know.

I need to get some new plates made.

The bumper bracket got two coats of satin black.

      looking good as usual Dave.

Think I have found a solution to the rusty coolant bottle issue.

My old one looked like yours a few days ago. (best image I had of it back when I got the car and I forgot to take a before picture!)
      rust.jpg

Soaked it in this stuff for 24 hours. Used about 6-7 desert spoons of oxalic acid to 10 litre of hot water.
      acid.jpg

24 hours later it looks like this.
      tank1.jpg
      tank2.jpg

I did sealed up the pins in the bottom but I don't think it would do any damage even if you left them exposed to the acid. It's not damaged any of the pressed in metal pipes that are in the tank.

Also think it may be quicker if you pumped the oxalic acid around the bottle using a 12V screen washer pump. Either way it's looking a lot better then what I started with yesterday.

So, regarding the broken headlamp washer, got my thinking cap on and came up with a solution.
There was some thread left in each stud. I'm not able to weld as the studs are set in rubber. I could have drilled a tiny hole in the centre and epoxy glued a thin rod in which connected to a new length of stud but didn't think that would be very strong.
          So came up with this.
Rivet nuts. The hole expanded to 9mm and some washers and spacers cut from stainless tube. Short stainless bolts epoxy glued into the rear of the rivet nut.

The other un damaged side was easy.

          The hose all got replaced.

The fogs fitted with new stainless screws and bumper support replaced.

          That's the good news.
The bad news is that the master cylinder didn't fit. Cry.

If anyone needs a brake master cylinder it's for sale. Apparently it fits Audi 100/200. I got it from Belgium so it's not worth returning.

Front bumper fitted. I've used stainless fittings.
My home made supports worked a treat.
I had to remove the intake hose to get the bolt in on the off side.

To try and repaint or leave as is with 'patina', that is the question?

              It's off the front grill.

I would look at rechroming there are plenty of places that can do this. There are even DIY kits https://www.stardustcolors.co.uk/chrome-at-home/1096-chroming-kit-chrome-at-home.html

I'm not sure satin black would look right. I'm going with patina for now and will look into getting it re chromed later.

One step forward, two steps back. That's how it went today.
Got my replacement master cylinder from Highland Quattro. It's made by ABS and looks good quality. After a chat with Paul from Highland I established that you have to remove the o ring for Ur fitment (ate one didn't have one). He was very helpful.

The brakes were bled and we have a good solid pedal.

So I then went to set the handbrake. With cables fully tight, I have no handbrake.
So what's happened is that before the pistons on the rear brakes have returned using the pedal, the handbrake was operated. This was due to air and the faulty master. I will now have to re strip the rear calipers, set the handbrake mechanism and re fit. Doh.

So I thought I would quickly fit the headlamps to take my mind off that job. No chance.
                    A quick clean.

I realised I needed to re fit the lower headlamp brackets. These are only found on early Quattros.

And the bumper is now in the way! Doh Doh!
So moved that forward to give just enough space and fitted them. Dropped two stainless screws behind the bumper somewhere. Lost in action currently.

So offered up the headlamp and there is a big gap. Not sure what's wrong. Double Doh!

And the nearside headlamp top screw sheared on removal a few months back. I'd forgotten. It will have to be drilled out.

All my drill bits are blunt after drilling out the last stainless screws that sheared!
                    Fun and games hey.

Yes, had those on the blue Ur. Much easier to fit lamps on them.
I see now why they changed the design. I wonder if i can use those with my lamps?

Getting the handbrake sorted wasn't too bad. I asked for advice on the Ur Quattro restoration group on Facebook and Darron Edwards came to the rescue.
You push the pistons back in then wind out to the same size as the pads and discs width.
                                Now have a perfect handbrake.
                                Take a measurement.

                                Push back

Wind back out to just over so the caliper just fits snugly over the pads.

Pump brake pedal before touching the handbrake then you can adjust.

Back on her feet after 6 months on the lift. Looking rather dusty.
