      Exhaust tips on.

      She's out of hibernation.

      Also available in white (ish).

Paint looks quite good wet…..from 10 feet away. Lol

      Plenty to do inside.

I will be looking to get her painted at the end of the summer.

Then I took her for a quick spin around the block to dry the brakes and see what's working and what's not. Things were very strange. Engine falling away and reluctant to pull until we got going. Then I realised what the problem was. We were doing 30mph in 1st gear!
So, whoever changed the clutch didn't take it for a test drive. The gear linkage is out of alignment and we don't have 1st or 2nd gear!
No wonder she was struggling. I was pulling away in 3rd gear.

So, I'm having a rest from Quattro work for a few days as the ramp is needed for something interesting but non Audi. Romey is sleeping in the barn tonight but has good company (the S2).

I have some of those headlight brackets, I thought they were repair pieces, wasnt sure if they were original.
Are you going to get the reflectors resilvered?

Well. The little MG service and a couple of little jobs turned into a major service and a few big jobs!

Anyway, back in more familiar territory now.

Got her up on the ramp. Undid the gear linkage.
                      It's not easy.

The crows foot on a long extension works best.

Then with the linkage completely disconnected, get someone (good wife) to hold the gear leaver in the neutral position (gearbox was already in neutral) and then re connect. Simples.
Just took three goes before I had all the gears.

Took her for a spin and all is good. Phew!

Onto interior deep clean. It's very grubby.

First let the noo noo loose.

                      Then the bissel

                      Seats weren't too bad.

Carpet in the back was awful and needed some really serious deep cleaning.

                      Getting there.

The wiper arms need some attention.

They have been cleaned down back to metal and painted.

Now time to sort the alarm. It's not a quality fit.

                        It's all coming out.

I have no idea what this little switch did. It was heading in the direction of the ignition switch so I was concerned but it wasn't connected to anything.

I wonder why some of the ecu wires are cut off? Everything is working?

Anyway. Alarm all safely removed an no damage done. It only cut into the loom in three places. A live and the indicators (twice). I managed to remove all the scotch connectors without any damage to the loom.

I had one of those little switches on my car, same place at the back of the glove box on drivers side it was cut into the ignition switch feed as an immobiliser, scotchlock went wrong in the middle of the night somewhere in Cornwall, managed to start the car after a while by wiggling the wiring under the dash.

I used to fit one on my cars back in the 80/90's when car thefts were rife in London. I used to cut into the fuel pump feed and mount the switch under the drivers seat. Forward for go, back for stop.

Anyway, back to deep cleaning day two. All the plastics are very dry and need a feed as does the leather.

I found some service labels in the glove box. It was serviced by Audi dealer up to 1987 at least.

I have an intermittent warning light on the dash. Just reading up on testing this in Phil's pages.

I think my pump might be weak.

Anyone have a good spare for sale?

Have you checked the connections to the 2 sensors under the bomb? They can be loose or dirty.
