I do have the spacer and it has a DMFW.
I don't think it's a weld. Looks more like damage to me.
Now, my friend came over last night but due to the fact that he is a tractor mechanic, the smallest bore micrometer he had wouldn't fit.
Anyway, he is far more knowledgeable and experienced than me and said he think the bores look ok and should hone out nicely. He also said the crank journals should polish out no problem.
Something he suggested was to re fit the spark plugs, flip the head and fill the voids with diesel. This will show up any leaks. So did this and left it overnight.

In the morning, all were still full and no signs of any leaks.
I will still need to get the bores measured next week but now I'm a bit more hopeful.
Head will also get stripped and new valve seals fitted.
Onto a little cleaning.

My brake discs have virtually no wear at all but were very rusty from standing.
My friend sand blasted them for me and when it's dry I will paint with some vht silver. A coat of rust converter has been applied to stop them flash rusting.

Huston we have a problem!

Anyone have an old RS2 front disc?
It's only the hub part that's cracked/broken. Hopefully I can swap it out.
Otherwise they came out well.

Don't worry, I'm going to clean the pad area before fitting.

I dropped the engine off at the engineers this morning. Unfortunately they were too busy to measure it while I wait so I'm waiting for a call. Nervous grin.
I've used them before and they are very good and quite reasonable.
So, I thought I would crack on with other stuff.
This heat shield is very dead.

So I made it into template material.

And made a replacement.

Some very nice replacement parts arrived from GTM in Germany. I didn't get stung for import duty this time. Hurray.

I had a look to see what gaskets I need. It's amazing how they build up over the years. I've pretty much got everything I need.

Even had a spare rear main oil seal.

This heat shield get the treatment.

I had to trim the very bottom to remove the rusty bits.
This one wasn't bad.

Then off to the paint booth (poly tunnel).
Has anyone got a good cambelt cover spare?

Good news from the machine shop. My block has measured within tolerance and just needs a hone. The crank is also good and just needs a light polish.
So I'm after a couple of standard size pistons in good condition if anyone has any for sale?
Also after recommendations for main crank bearings and where to source plus piston rings and big end bearings?
