Not really got a time line. All i know is that things always take longer than expected.

Hopefully it will be done by early next year though..

Just got the head back from the cleaners.

VG's removed and all nice and shiny now.

At first inspections all looked well:

But then I turned it over and spotted this at Cylinder 5 Its in between the last Valve on the exhaust side and the spark plug.

What are my options now? Do i need to scrap the head and start again?? :S
Can this be welded?

Well this also made my day

As i had a baby one on No.3

From the AAN repair manual:

Cylinder heads with cracks between valve seats or between valve seat and spark plug threads may be reused without reducing service life, provided cracks do not exceed 0.5 mm (0.020 in.) width, or when no more than first threads are cracked.

I have seen these cracks welded and ground before (on one head anyway). While your at it it if your not happy with the helicoil you could have it replaced with a T-cert.

The Wagner IM just arrived.

Its looking good.

Ill give it a coat of paint so that it matches the Cam cover in the next few days after its ported.

Carstens manifold is getting there.

Next the "AUDI" will be painted red to match the spark plug cover.

Took quite a while to get the template for spraying. After all that i couldn't even get the letters on there straight

Can highly recommend the wagner manifolds, I have gone back to one and I'm happy to have the security of cast over weld.

Almost done now, just need to touch up some of the red over spill..


The colour definition is well out, its a bright red not an orange as the camera seems to think.
