    Engine work...

    is likely to include:-

    1. check mains tolerances,
    2. check stroke clearance,
    3. machine hole for oil drain,
    4. re-bore to 83.0mm,
    5. water way machining,
    6. machine holes for cambelt tensioner.

Then paint block, chase all tapped holes and maybe coat internals of the water jacket with a rust 'proofer'?

Weirdly I think the NG engine uses the same belt tensioner as ABY, but I dunno if its in exactly the same place. With Audi you can't predict everything.

NICE job miladdo - gotta do this to a 3B block someday in the future... After the 7A head is made good. Then attach RS2 EM, IC, Turbo, Carsten IM etc etc - oh why do we do it to ourselves ?

BUT - Can you add hole depth to this drawing ?

                      Yep...

once i've correctly measured how much metal is in the 7A block against the ABY.

The holes in the ABY were 15mm deep, too much for a 7A block.

How do you know that 15mm is too deep on the 7A ?

Has anyone done this on a 3B - what depth ?

                          .

You can just about measure the hole nearest the water pump...bout 11mm on a 7A block...

                          Or plan B:-

Drill oversize holes through to the water jacket in the block with a step on the front face, then interference fit over long plugs and drill into these for the required depth.

Might have to go for plan B if i cant get a proper thread depth.
