If you know anyone with a welder thats your best bet by far I would say.there's a good place on the other side of glasgow where I got my access spanners (banana shaped chaps) so i'm going to nip in and see what they have in spline sockets. machinemart is nearby anyway so i'll get them there if need be.
I was looking at the spiral sockets too. that's what Mike recommended. they must be handy. There are smaller sets that do 6, 8, 10 and 12mm. think the 12 might fit if I can pick up a set before saturday (when i'll just start battering everything within reach with a hammer)
cheers
Weld a nut on to it and it will be a piece of cake to get it off
maybe pay a local mobile welder a few pints to do it..

This may sound stupid ,but try to tighten the thing and then undoing it,that has worked for me on several occa'sions. If you have stripped the head of the bolt it will hopefully be just oneway, anty clockwise. once you have cracked the joint it may be possible to start undoing it by tapping it round with a cold chisel. Best of luck

I tried the tightening trick but didn't work for me. cheers for the tip though Lou. keep 'em coming.
mobile welder could be worth a shot but I hope it doesn't come to that. I was trying to find JB Weld the other day and failed miserably. that stuff's amazing.
I need to get spline sockets on saturday morning so I'll get a set of spiral socket stud remover things and give them a bash. I was planning on nipping down to hammer a 12mm socket on tonight but instead i'm clearing space in garage number 2 cos the new shell is arriving tomorrow night!
And like a simpleton i'm dead excited. normally i'd reserve this level of excitement for a whole car that works. think i've taken a knock to the head.

that's exactly what I need but I can't wait for royal mail to mess about. i'm still waiting on that freeze spray that was posted a week ago. I know a couple of places to try first thing saturday morning so hopefully i'll be sorted. it's a pain in the **** cos there's nothing anyone can do when they're striking.--------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you tried giving it a good whack straight on with the hammer yet? I'm not joking it usually works, if its an allen or torx head bolt it will also shrink the hole a little so you can get some action with the allen key again.Comment

You can buy this very set from machinemart order code 040214679 and they'll be a little cheaper too. I meant to post this item in a previous reply instead of the ones for power tools.if u need a spiral socket set these look the job, just ordered some myself for the same problem u have

yeah, i've whacked it until my arm went numb, battered the allen socket right into it and everything but no joy.
rob - link didn't work but yeah, saw that set at machine mart http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...-expansion-set
It's easier for me to get in on sat morning instead of messing about with couriers, who will probably leave a card and make me go collect it from them sat morning anyway.
it's just another case of needing the right tool and knowledge. I now have all the knowledge the forum has to give and if I had time i'd be down battering a 12mm socket onto it just now but if i'm waiting to saturday I may as well use the spiral socket.--------------------------------------------------------------------
