        Top class Alex!

How did you get on with the AC pipe that runs past the servo/master cylinder? was there enough room?

(edit; just had a re-read, 3b a/c pipes solved it)

No I cut up an ABY pipe to make it fit around the servo, then I noticed the 3B pipe was totally different - it runs from the drier right across the back of the head so it clears the vacuum servo perfectly. Makes things a bit tight at the back of the engine, but it all fits nicely - you'd also need the connector block that bolts to the evaporator pipes too. All the rest of my pipework is ABY. I'll get some pics if it helps mate

That would be really helpfull if you could mate

I have fully functioning Ac at the moment, rare on these cars I'm sure you agree
The clearance of that ac pipe is the only reason I have not not ditched the son of saitan hydraulic servo.

great job alex, the car looks like totally new !
question about that engine mount heat shield
how do you have it screwed on the engine side? because it seems it's bolt on the engine mount ?

Cheers Nick, yes I did have 3 bolts on the chassis side and 1 on the engine mount, then after I fitted it I released the engine mount needs to move
So I removed the bolt on the engine mount leg

Rich, here are a few pics of the 3B AC pipe - hard to see as the engine bay is now crammed with bits!

It is a single piece from the drier right across to the the connector block that bolts to the evapourator outlet on the bulkhead. As you can see you'll need the 3B connector block too as the pipe is different. The ABY pipe from the condenser fits right onto it the 3B connector block so its a really tidy solution.

Bit of info on the HLD 0A3 gearbox I am using: As you can probably guess it was the T3 40/60 static bias centre diff that was the reason for using this box. It has 4.111 final drive, making it an easy fit from that perspective. It is also slightly shorter geared than the CGR/CRB box, due to the 8krpm that the RS4 pulls.

                          HLD Gear Ratios
                          1st 3.667
                          2nd 2.211
                          3rd 1.520
                          4th 1.133
                          5th 0.919
                          6th 0.778

Compared to CGR / CRB ratios:
                          1st 3.50
                          2nd 1.89
                          3rd 1.32
                          4th 1.03
                          5th 0.86
                          6th 0.71

Using my 245/35 18 tyres, it will give me 23.0mph/1000rpm as opposed to 25.2mph/1000rpm of the CGR/CRB. Using a 7600rpm limiter, that gives nigh on 175mph, enough for anyone I think.

It is 28mm longer than the CGR, so I have sent my propshaft off to be shortened and re-balanced. The final piece of the puzzle is the speed sensor - the 0A3 doesn't have one as the B6 and later cars use one of the front ABS sensors.
Johne has been very helpful on the electrical side, and I think I have a solution that will be as close to OEM
what was the update with the vss? I have been considering the 0A3 since you mentioned it.

                            Cheers

Yes The solution for the VSS is pretty straight forward actually. Using the A6 driveshafts I need a spacer for the LH shaft which I have started to draw up:

                            Spacer_zps7f1b4dc5.jpg

The scalloped outer ring on the spacer will trigger a hall sensor. Johne very kindly helped me out with details on how to use a pick-up resistor to generate the right signal to mimic the OE reed switch. Then I will need to clip one of the pins going into the speedo chip
