The best thing i found for alloy porting was a little round rubber thing that takes round tube shape pieces of sand paper. The little tubes push over the rubber thing. You get the sand paper in different grades. The rough ones REALLY move alloy fast! Those stone things just get clogged up with alloy as it is so soft. The carbide cutters are ok but really work better on iron.

I'm really just looking for a tidy up here -
- decoke all round
- remove any casting flash and sharp edges
- match the inlet ports to manifold and gasket
- reduce any tight radius on the ports - but can't see many to be honest
- don't wanna sharpen or polish anything on inlet side
- polish the exhaust ports and make sure the EM ports are bigger
I'm not going for anything radical or risky - I have the cutaway photos as I very handy guide.

Engineers blue dye is what I would use... But the tricky bit is getting the IM to stay in the right position. The traditional method for that is to insert a couple of dowels so that the IM aligns to a consistent position. Thats tricky for me as I dunno where its safe to drill two new holes - Diesel_Des gave me a tip along the lines of welding up a few bolt-holes in the IM which are then drilled narrower than normal so that the shoulder of the studs holds it snug in a consistent place.Paul Nugent

LOLAye - you are one big hairy dog alright - with a deep shiny coat, a collar full of bling and a bite to match its bark with the stuff you've been up to on that animal of yours
No sweat on that template - I just figured you hadn't posted until the strike backlog had calmed down. Its not like I'm in a desperate rush for this job. This weekor next is grand.
I'm going shopping for a kit of head porting stones next - any recommendations ?
Paul
I sent it you yesterday 'next day' delivery, the helpful counter assistant said it would be with you by 13.00 today...
Did you get it?
Standard Abrasives kits are very good, although mine was a little low on stock, so I bought a kit off ebay (just cartridge rolls) and that did the job well enough too.Mark - ModdedComment

Got it yesterday Mark - meant to tell you - Mega - thanks for that...
I'll share a pic or two here for posterity.
One question though - how deep do the new holes on the IM side need to be to accommodate the extra studs for the water rail - same as existing studs or what ?
