Try using a rotary rasp for the initial removal of metal. It's much quicker, and then switch over to the cartridge rolls for finishing.
As long as you are careful with the rasp you will be fine, you'll also save money on cartridge rolls too

By 'rasp' you mean like a flappy wheel or something else ?
It is a bit of a learning exercise... I'm ready to get the valve guides removed on four of the cylinders so I can get in there. I'm very dubious about taking too much material off in those raised areas near the guides - guessing there must be water channels in that area.
I'll leave the 5th cylinder untouched for now to get comparative analysis on a flow-bench.Paul Nugent

Ahh those burrs - yes tried some small ones of those - they clagged up quite a bit and I personally found the cartridge rolls to be nice to control... But it gets a bit dull changing them so rapidly - the co**** ones really shift metal.
Actually - I've collected as much dust of the head that I can... Its a good visual as too how much metal is removed. I'll use the homologation papers as a guide to just how wide to open the ports at the manifold faces. I've just been tidying up in that area and not made big openings (also for fear of going too far).Paul Nugent
