This weekend I had the chance to do a first longer ride (without blasting) to see how the fuel consumption is now with the new cam setup and VEMS EGO control.
My car has a fuel consumption of 10L every 100 km on Euro 98 fuel and cruising 130 km/h on the speedo (125 km/h on GPS) for longer rides, which is not too bad I think.Last edited by Bram; 8 December 2009, 15:43.Comment

ISV harness with the diode arrived today from Marc, so in January I will start to play with idle settings using the ISV instead of ignition based idle.Attached FilesComment

Yes I have one from Marc, the idle settings have changed again in 1.1.64 which i'm thinking of upgrading to once i've got it settled in janComment

OK, I have an update. And not a nice one. While upgrading to VEMS FW 1.1.67 I forgot to unplug the fuel pump relay, the injectors and the coils. While I was flashing from 1.1.27 to 1.1.67 The injecors opened up and flooded the engine. I think it's at least 2 liters of petrol that went in, as I did not know the sound of injectors going open/close al the time
Anyway, I tried to downgrade back to FW 1.1.27 and not knowing the engine flooded so heavily I tried to start the engine, but it simply did not turn over.
Last night I got Jyrki to the rescue describing to me how to solve this as it can casue a lot of damage to the engine when there is so much fuel in the engine, once you try to start the car.
Find below a list of steps I am going to perform this weekend in order to drain all the fuel out of the engine and hopefully without any fire restart the engine again.
- have fire extinguisher ready
- find big rag like bedsheet or something
- take off ecu completely to make sure there is absolutely no spark
- remove plugs
- cover the plugholes with the sheet
- turn the engine over a couple of times with wrench to get some of the fuel off
- then turn the key (it'll spray fuel out like a geysir)
- pls have extinguisher ready
- when fuel is out, spray some CRC or similar into the cylinders like multilube (WD40), so one second or so to each cylinder this because You have flushed all the oil out from the cylinders
- change oil and filter as You most likely have now liter more oil You did last weekend and it just does not lubricate anymore
- put the spark plugs back in
- turn the engine for 20-30 secs a few times (let starter cool down for a few minutes between the starts)
- Try to suck the fuel out from the intake and maybe pump some out from the ex pipe
- then put the ecu back
- push the car out from the garage and start it. it will most likely cough and sneeze at first. You most likely have enormous backfires so if You do that in garage, it may
catch fire and even without, it will make a humongous black stain to the wall when it
sprays the sooty fuel out.

Bram,
Dont worry dude.
I done just the samething almost a month ago, i also rang Jyrki.
I was testing the relays on my external pumps, Tatech was not earthed and it must have cause the injectors to be open. in less than 5 seconds i filled the EM and IM to the extent that i had fuel comming out of my throttle body!
I will warn you like Repo has.
The fuel will fly out of the spark plug holes, maybe 4 meters in the air!!!! i covered it with a towel that was not heavy enough!
Be prepared for some extremely ****ing loud bangs.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! Take a video you will laugh after!

had the same 2 times! I just took the plugs-pipes out, had a spare battery and cranked the car many times for short periods! then connected the plugs again and after some more tries it wanted to turn but couldnt. Then some more and it started!Go Holset or Go RS4Comment

It will probably sound like launch control popping right?
At least I hope this story makes clear to other forum members that when flashing the FW of VEMS (or maybe other stand-alone ECUs as well) you should disconnect the coils, Fuel pump relay and injectors. I learned the hard way
