STILL waiting for the cage to arrive
i've got all the necessary bits to replace the fuel lines, aswell as a new diff seal as the one on the passengerside of the rear diff is starting to get pretty leaky, hopefully will get
chance to get some spanner time in this coming weekend,as this weekend gone was a no go due to working saturday with the hangover from hell, meaning having to make up the time on sunday.
On another note,i've been trying an MTM chipped ecu as appose to my "superchipped" one-which is a peice of ****,if anyone out there decides to get their car superchipped,do yourself a favour and don't!The mtm chipset is pretty good, the car is noticeably quicker than before, smoother and more progreesive-so i'm pretty impressed,
it should tide me by until i've got the beans for a new turbo and all the other jazz

Hi, ive had a good look through, well impressed. I will be doing the same to my 7A Coupe Quattro this year when i get myself some garage space sorted. It will be staying NA though, megasquirt, and possibly throttle bodies.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask where you ordered the cage from? Is it a universal weld in one or is it actually cut and bent to fit the coupe shell? Ive had a look around at most of the common builders online (safety devices, omp) but cant find a specific one. Care to share where its coming from?

Cheers, and keep up the good work.

hi,the cage is coming from custom cages in daventry, basically they only supply "club kit's" for the b3 coupe(weld in),basically it's a fairly universal affair, you have to self assemble for that reason,if you had a urquattro however they offer a custom fitted cage it's a shame they don't do a similar one for our cars. They could build a custom one on site but i need my car as a daily driver at present, plus i like to get my hands dirty.
There are a couple of other projects on here somewhere where people have got bolt in off the shelf cages from a german company-i can't remember the name though.

Cheers, ill have to look them up.

7A on throttle bodies will sound the bees, but its alot of work.
I currently have a chopped 7a manifold and 2 sets of throttle bodies from a triumph daytona. They have round butterflies that taper into an oval which is not too disimilar to the port shape on the audi heads.

Trouble is I need to move the main radiator, and loose the power steering pump, and therefore power brakes.

Anyway, sorry for the hijack... I will post my own project page when I get the show on the road.

Would you mind letting me know the price for the cage? You can PM me if you want.

          Cheers.

If you want a bolt in cage then weichers sport in Germany will do you one from 400euros delivered for a half cage Magarv is running one and is pleased with it.

Well it would appear that the weather has slowed my cage down
i spoke to custom cages and apparently they missed a delivery of steel,so it means another week and a half at least before it arrives.I got sick of waiting for some garage time so i decided to brave the cold and do the diff seal at home
I decided to part with a little cash for a couple of tools to add to the ever increasing tool kit:

And my bro finally got some bits to do the fuel lines as well as some diff oil:

I'm going to do the lines over the pit this week-no chance i'm even going to attempt it on the drive
The driveway has turned into a workshop once again-all be it a fairly unpleasant one:

getting to a stage where the shaft can be unbolted meant taking the caliper off the carrier(more for access to the bolts through the stut),undid the bolts through the strut aswell as the bolt through the hub into the outer c.v and that's it,the spline on the outer c.v is quite stubby so it doesn't need much movement to pull it free:

a couple of long extensions and a 'spline' bit made short work of the bolts on the c.v joint,i was expecting worse:

once the first half of the shaft was off there's only one bolt (hex head) that needs to come out in order to pull the other half of the joint, leaving acess to the problem seal.
To get it out i just gently prized it out,was pretty easy as it is only a press in affair.
Pushed the new seal in place,an gently tapped it in aroungd the edges until it was flush with the diff casing.I then put the first half of the shaft in,tightening the hex bolt to pull it into place.Unfortunately i didn't get pics of the seal installed as it was starting to snow again and wanted the car back on all fours.
                leaky seal:

                shaft unbolted:

                second half out:

                the culprit:

decided to fit the fuel filter to save a job later on:

that's all for now, will update later in the week as the fuel lines get done,as well as that the exhaust needs fettling to fit better as i'm not 100% happy with it.

Finally got into the garage today to get something done
So now the fuel lines are all new and the exhaust fits as it should, also had to change the copper washers on the fuel filter connection as it was leaking.so all in all not a bad day, although it would seem my battery is nothing more than a £50 paperweight, the screen washers have stopped working and my forge dumpvalve has given up on life, may just need a clean,i'm going to have a look tomorrow but i may just bin it and get a decent one-any reccomendations?
                  On another note-still no cage
Will post up some pics when get a moment.

                    as promised...

a few pics of whats been going on of late
firstly the fuel lines, the old ones were leaking under the rubber fasteners which appears to be a common problem with the OE steel lines:

a damaged heatshield upfront allowed the rot to set in:

the old lines, they fell apart as soon as the fasteners came off, covering me in petrol

all told it took about two hours,it was just the main sections on the floorpan which were replaced, the rest were fine, they even had the paint on them still which was nice.
All done and leak free and i'm pretty happy with the results, just a shame it's so difficult to get them dead straight (which is why they aren't)

also discovered the cause of the terrible chattering:

becuse of the split vaccum line to the dumpvalve it was chattering,i immediately assumed it was jammed or something, thankfully not the case,i Still think i'll replace it for a better one.

                              finally..

                              The cage arrived

I decided to go for a half cage in the end,i may add door bars at a later date.
The only problem is that it seems it will be a pain in the **** to fit as the upper bars are quite long and don't seem to have a specific place to go looks like a little cutting and grinding will be in order, also the profiles on the tubes ain't so great but i suppose that's the price you pay for buying something in kit form (that is,on top of the £250)
I suspect the next update may not be for a while yet,as i still need to get the gas tank filled up for the welder as the last lot leaked out
                              Anyway,more to come...
