I,v done this in the past and find the safest method is to use four or five concrete blocks stacked flat on top of each other for each corner, use a bit 4x2 soft wood on top of each stack to support the car at each jacking point.

Yep, don't use sills, use the actual chassis rail further inboard.

Best of luck, and post up some photo's.

and don't do like a forum member once did with someone's car and just jack it at one point on the car and leave it for months like that. The door would not shut afterwards

My mate who breaks cars does this, using a couple of decent breeze blocks to make a good solid base.

Exactly what I've done with mine. I've got some good old locally made >10 Newton concrete blocks and some 4x2. A lot cheaper than axle stands too.
I put them under the four jacking points and the doors still open and close fine.

Long time since I've updated this! I've decided to stick with standard suspension components (at least for the time being!) as my budget has been cut, however I've just had my 17" Avus wheels refurbished and new 235/45 Pirelli P-Zero tyres put on. I've gone with the slightly larger than before profile as I don't want the wheel/tyre to look dwarfed in the arches, so this should keep about right. Overall increase in roll is 11mm, so should be perfect.

Lap-Tab did the refurb, and the wheels are perfect - however the center caps that they resprayed are awful...

The right one, apparently! Can't remember off the top of my head, but I think they're the S6 ones?

8Jx17 Avus style wheels from 2001 S6 are ET35 - pretty much perfect... Stock ET on 16 is 37mm for reference purps.

Yeah I have those on mine, but from memory 235/45's were a bit close to the steer arm and went with 225/45 should be able to use 235/40's ok though

Wheels have come up really well. Look forward to seeing them back on the car.

How much was it to have the wheels refurbed?

Wheels were £230 for refurbishment, the Pirellis were £330. Quite a dear do in all but it's one of the aspects of the car that lets itself down. Also had a delivery the other day of some new black trims for the side! Thanks VAGParts!

Well, massive thanks to the other half (nearly official, went out and bought the dreaded ring earlier today! Wohoo!) for putting up with me and helping me get this far - I've now got the wheels on.

Going to be going for some 5mm spacers as indeed the tyres are precariously close to the steering components, but other than that it's perfect.

Still not got any hoses or coolant, the car keeps on stalling as not much of the electrics under the bonnet is connected, but it was sufficient to get in and out of the garage to get the wheels on and out of the living room!

Hopefully see the new hoses some time soon, and then I'll be well away! Oh, and then it needs an oil change, and the brakes need changing on the back, and then suspension needs doing...

                                Oh, what fun!!!
