small update to an old thread I had a bit of time to myself yesterday so decided to check out the latest developments on my leak, a good depth of water in the rear driverside passenger footwell again so out with the sponge to get it out, quite depressing really, if only i could be 100% sure where the hell its getting in it would be a start. headlining on same side is also soaked but not sure how much of that is condensation from all the moistures in the car in the first place. Checked both front and rear sunroof drains and they all run free so its not those blocked....Annoying really as i was hoping for a simple fix

Think I am going to have to source a new door seal (see wanted ad...) as mine just doesnt seat right on the frame in my opinion.

Had a nosey at the headlamp wash system too, think the relay is dead...anyone have a 272 kicking about they wouldnt mind letting me test with to rule that out?

Really itching to get this back on the road now, days are slowly getting longer and the car has been stationary since Sept which is criminal really so time to get my act together and get her running again to enjoy it.

Progress is slow, hampered more so by my knee but determined to get out and plant the right foot sometime soon....watch this space

Might be worth taking a look at the aerial base. Pop the rear light out from the headlinding and see whether there is any sign of water ingress. I noticed a damp patch round mine and took the light out and got a shower for my troubles! I then touched the aerial and it fell off! The actual base has rotted through meaning that it was not pressing the seal against the roof!
Naturally this has happened in a week of Biblical downpours!

            Eureka

FINALLY....i have found the source of my longstanding water leak which has been doing my head in for months!

Looks to be a leak at the top corner of the screen on the drivers side.

Interestingly its been presenting itself as a leak at the base of the a-pillar by running down the back of the a-pillar trim, hoping out and around the door rubber and running down the door seal and dumping the water into the drivers side footwell. this basically either runs along the bottom of the door seal and drops into the drivers side rear footwell or just happens to be enough water coming in tot flood that rear footwell

Additionally with all the water/moisture in the car, it then causes condensation to form on the underside of the roof which then runs out to the sides and then part soaks the headliner, looking like the sunroof tray is flooding because the drain holes are not clear.

Am so pleased that its finally been found as its the most depressing issue whenever you look out at the car its misted up and in the winter it's iced up inside too

Top tip: strip ALL trim out before soaking the car with water and it should present itself quicker and more closely to where the source of the leak actually is as its amazing how not doing that can send you down a ton of blind alleys.

Glad you have finally found it. Could be getting under the black metal trim around the windows and down that way.

Pretty sure this is the same on mine, the metal oiece that holds the door seal needs to come right out and be re-sealed to the roof, B pillar outside trim off to do it ..

my a pillar trim doesnt sit flush where it meets the leading edge of the roofline which i am sure is a more cosmetic thing than anything else though the distinct absence of rivets ip that pillar (there are some) probably also means its not working as well as it should.

Time to get the window out, the roof and leading edgeline repaird (rust bubbles again on that fromm a previous poor window replacement) and drop in the new glass. This time i will be watchinhg them replace every single rivet!!! took 3 attempts last time the glass was out because they couldn't sit it flush properly.

same problem as I have with mine David - i used some sealer and just gunned loads down the tops of the A-pillar trims and stopped leaking in there.... still got the stupid black triangle leak as everyone else seems to

Need to make some equiries on the respray of the roof, a local guy who resprayed the a6 bumper did a great job and had quoted £175 for the roof a year back so need to see if thats still valid. If its going to Grusch it needs to look its best

had a couple of hours to myself so finally its kicking the project into life.

decided to remove the rear door cards and install the Infinity's pete had given me ages back and in the process discovered a few wierd things...

Seem to have found a load of old coax which was running up the B-pillar but neither carried on to either the radio or the aerial Additionally two beefy red wires which terminate under the rear bench but run via inline fuses to the battery (one rated with a 40A blade fuse so can only presume someone had some big audio kit living under the seat or something. ripped it all out and now have a few less things hanging off the battery

Less interesting but more annoying, i found water behind the rear passenger side card. No idea of point of entry

                                Any ideas what this is??

started changing over parts of the pcv too but hit a snag trying to get enough space to route the 8mm pipe and the light was fading so one for tomorrow
