One of Albert's? I'm still tempted by one of those, the only thing that puts me off is not being able use the stock MAF hose, well actually I'm guessing that's the case as the compressor inlet looks a fair bit bigger than stock. I like the fact that the RS2 set up looks OE and bolts together easily.

It's a pity that VES don't map Motronic anymore what with them being local to you, are considering going VEMS from Danny over sticking with Motronic and using Automark?

I called Mark at Automark, he was most helpful, he will map 3B or ABY, he has done up to 700bhp on the dizzy, but says cop is better. He will use mechanical boost or electronic boost controller. If going COP he advised using new standard S2 coils as they will do another 100k. If using TFSI coils he does not adjust the dwell. Stock MAF is to be on the pressure side between the intercooler and the intake manifold.

Ordered a downpipe from Danny at DNA, he does VEMS ecus and maps them.
Thats a bit of a ******, What was him emulator issue? Cheaper us buying an emulator between us and getting them to map both cars than travelling and paying for map?

I have been thinking of vems for a while and also OMEX 710 as Alan at AVA uses OMEX alot although has never done a 5 pot, he could be very useful plus my unit next door if any issues.

Yup, one of Albert's turbos. No idea on the intake, if so I have a large cobra head hose, or will just use a silicone 180 and punch a hole into the inner wing or build an air box. I need to pop the wing off but think you might be able to make a nice airbox for a cone between the inner wing and outer if you made a floor for it.

Yeah, it would have been perfect as they are only 20 minutes away.

I was thinking about it, but you need to buy VEMS, then get it tuned, so it cost the same as a motronic live map + vems ecu. I am not a tuner so the ability to re tune if something was changed is limited, though I could use "any" local tuner rather than a motronic specialist.

I am just going to get Mark to do it and be done with engine mods after this (if I end up building a stroker next year I will be kicking myself )

Problems getting parts with the emulator, there are always issues when mapping.

I suspect like most tuners they are not that interested in wasting time messing about with old crap/eproms etc when you could be flashing.

VES said vems, emerald, omex, any good standalone ecu, better tuning, easier to re tune after any mods.

Thought it would be one of Albert's, the performance looks really impressive and being a K26 they should be tough as old boots. I'll be very interested to see how you get on with yours, I may still take the plunge myself even though I'm happy with my current set up.

I reckon there's enough space between the wings for a custom airbox, I did think about doing that myself when I had a cone filter fitted.

Hmm, that's got me thinking I could sell my RS2 airbox if I did that.

Yep, VEMS is only appealing if your can map it yourself, I don't have either the IT or tuning know how to even make a start, guess it's just a case of learning but the cost if you make a mistake could be silly

Yup, I dont want a garret with amazing spool ******** itself every other year. They also dont deal well with over spinning (eg pop a boost hose etc)

My current set up is great, but I want it mapped so its "free" (man maths, buy the billet k26 and sell the rs2). More powah is always better

I dont have time for another hobby, I want to fit the bits and wail on the car, not tune it. Also as you say it would be easy to ruin it all.

i use also vems, bought a plug&play kit from efi express with wideband, egt sensor and vems round wideband gauge, cool stuff
this is the first time I've programmed a standalone ECU in my car
the ECU was provided with a program that the engine could be started with
the rest i programmed myself,i just try a few things(with my own knowledge) and see what the results ware
it is provided with a "LIVE VE ANALYSER", this is a self-learning program for you ve table, very easy to use
you also find enough support on the internet or forums
i have no experience with other standalone ecu"s

Thanks Nick, but I dont have the time to learn VEMS, though it is tempting.

I emailed Mark my spec list for him to look over last night and he called to discuss today. If I want a hassle free mapping session he said to fit the ABY ECU setup and there is no potential for lead breakdown, spark hop etc. Also to get an eboost street for boost control.

                      So I need
                      ABY ECU
                      coils
                      coil loom

Too bad VDO don't make a wideband guage.

I have never done a clutch with the engine in, I assume it should go

                            unbolt;
                            downpipe
                            prop
                            driveshafts
                            gear linkage
procon 10 cables (going to be a PITA?)
                            clutch slave
                            gearbox mounts

                            and pop the gearbox out

                            Any tips or suggestions?
