3b s2 coupe resurrection

Well I got the DagDag insured and have been driving it.
First impressions, its really slow, soft, wallowy, vague steering, no grip, wheelspins and under steers. On the plus side, it is quiet, comfy and the fuel gauge doesn't move much. However just driving it for what it is, and not comparing it to the S2, it can actually be piloted cross country quite reasonably.
My girlfriend had a shot of it today, the first thing she said was "is this as fast as it goes?"

It has receipts for random parts replaced, various old mot etc. META vehicle security installation cert. Rear calipers in 03, some discs in 03, Powerflow stainless cat back Nov 04 (£390 from wallace performance)
Bad points
Rust holes in OSR quarter (filled with body filler and painted)
Rust bubbles on NSR quarter
Rust on both front arches
Random little rust bubbles
Generally a bit rusty
Clutch has free travel at top, and clunks back onto stop
Brakes ok during normal driving, judder under hard braking
Speedo peeling (has black clocks fitted so working speedo)
Trip computer bled on s2 clocks
Drivers door hinge worn
oil cooler bypassed
aux rad deleted
drivers seat worn
interior tatty
front bumper grills missing
rear diff looks like it has leaked out the seals
bonnet grill cracked
fwd handbrake cables fitted (and cable tied to anything)
slight blow from exhuast joint
Rust inside boot
water in spare wheel well (presume tail light leaks)
fuel lines bodged
Straight section of fuel hardlines under the car has been replaced, and joined with rubber hoses
Car comes on corroded/leaky 3b wheels, not the Avus wheels pictured.
Good points
Drives well, I suspect stock suspension, nice and comfy but not sloppy, steering is good
No driveline play/shunt
Engine seems good, starts straight off, sounds quite, pulls smoothly and well
Gearbox seems good, shifts smoothly and doesn't make any funny noises
Long MOT
External temperature gauge fitted and working (in s2 clocks)
s2 badges present
Carbon trim
CD player, works, speakers work
2 keys/immobiliser sticks
It has an immobiliser, (chip needs to be stuck in steering column to start)
The previous owner had the car as a toy, and only used it half the year, he then put it off the road and says it sat for a year until I bought it. I went up and with a charged battery it started straight up and drove onto the transporter (brakes dragging heavily though). clutch bit in the carpet. 3b wheels heavily corroded and tyres deflate quickly.
Brought home and
rear calipers removed and unseized, guide pins greased, excess rust removed from discs, cleaned pad slides
front caliper guides greases (copperslip), pad guides cleaned, removed excess rust from discs, cleaned pad slides
replaced burst exhaust clamps
bled rr brakes
bled clutch manually
filled rear quarter and rattle canned
ran car up to temperature, dropped oil, new oil and filter and silent engine
coolant change (audi dealer coolant)
Replaced cracked rubber sections from previous fuel line repair
MOT passed

80TDi is doing its thing, 50mpg filling it neck to neck so cant complain.
Started to change the rear wheel bearings on the 80 tonight

Pressing out one race with a socket, then had to drift it out, the other race needed drifted the whole way

Went to fit the new bearing and its the wrong one
The larger bearing appears to be correct, however the smaller bearing is not , approximate dimensions
Original OD 45mm ID 19mm W 15mm
New OD 40mm ID 17mm W 15mm

I heard a scraping noise from a corner of the garage;

That was a bit of a surprise, pretty random
Cleaned up the ABS sensor/teeth when I was there, anybody know the correct gap?
Still got two rounded caliper carrier bolts to sort on the other side, and get some new wheel bearings ASAP.

The OFRM doesn't specify the gap between the ABS sensor and the gap. It only states that the sensor clamping sleeve should be replaced and installed with lubricating paste G 000 650. The ABS sensor should be pressed home by hand to install. HTHComment

Went up to Crail today for some 1/4 mile fun
ANDREW LANG | AUDI S2 | 29 April 2012
Run Reaction 60ft Time 1/4 Mile Time Lane
171 1.236 2.077 13.325@103.7 mph R
248 0.936 2.016 13.203@106.1 mph R
504 0.712 2.019 12.954@0 mph R
577 0.852 1.901 12.98@109.8 mph R
Car has undefelt removed, but the rest of the interior refitted, spare wheel, tools etc, no rear seats and front recaro speeds. Also had a passenger.
Was running a wet nitrous kit.
Was good fun, struggling to go on the lights and launch properly though. Martin was there with his type 85 90q with a stock ABY, which is fast, just goes to show what a difference weight makes.
Hopefully get videos off my mate soon.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon
