Got any dyno plots for the 455/500 setup? Also, is that the same turbo Darren uses on his Ur?

These are the ones that were done at the time of mapping by MRC. The boost was dropping from 2 to 1.5 bar and they suggested an altitude sensor change. Then a few days after the mapping we discovered a crack in the weld for the wastegate exit and then it fell off! It is better welded now with a proper support and so boost holds 2 bar all the way to redline so I am guessing that power is probably more than the 450 odd bhp.

Yes, that's the same turbo. I have 2 more, one on my RS2 (mapped to 400 bhp, otherwise standard) and the other one waiting to go on my 20v UR. They are a really good turbo - excellent response and really hold boost.

You can never be sure I guess. Even a 2.2 can be made to have more power than a stroker with the detail differences? However, I'm pretty sure we built this unit well and we certainly specced it very highly with the best quality internals etc.

I've always believed in backing up the seat of the pants feel with dyno proof but not everyone likes to do that.

I'm pretty sure that I've not seen another dyno plot with this turbo though....

I have to say though that it is a very good turbo. I've had MRC map all sorts of hybrids and they have always moaned about them but they were very impressed with this one.

I understand where you're coming from though, when I first did a 6 speed conversion into a ur I contacted al the people that were supposed to have actually done it and worked out pretty quickly that none of them really had to work it all out myself!!

damo - did you use the stock 6 speed linkage on yours or mate it to a gt housing for the linkage? I have both but not sure which is the best way and not sure if the opening for the linkage has to be opened out as some have mentioned.

pete...where the shifter enters the transmission tunnel(the round hole with the rubber)needs to be enlarged so the rod has enough circular motion, thats on a standard 6 speed linkage

No I didn't use the stock 6 speed linkage as otherwise you need that part of the transmission tunnel from the donor car too. The 6 speed box works in reverse to the UR one so if you just bolt the 6 speed linkage on to the UR (which you can easily) then you end up with 1st being where 2nd should be, 3rd being where 4th should be etc. This is because the UR gearstick hinges below the point where the selector rod attaches and the 6 speed stick hinges above the point where it attaches (outside and beneath the tunnel).

I was told that you had to cut out the tunnel to fit the 6 speed stick and linkage but decided to a bit of hunting around and found that the GT linkage (from about 1981 vintage) is pretty much a bolt on and the linkage stays inside the car with no cutting of the tunnel and crucially it hinges above the point where the linkage connects to the stick. You can use the standard opening too wiht the very slightest of widening (a couple of mm here and there).

Ah that sounds like what I was on about, i've got 2x gt linkages so thats not a problem, think that sounds like what OKP did on his.

Not quite right. The standard 6 speed lever linkage will not fit inside the car in my experience as it effectively exits immediately below the lever. (I have an RS2 and it's easy to see the problem when it's on the ramp). If you want this solution then you need to have the transmission cut out where the lever is from the donor car and transplant it. Not ideal. My solution with the GT linkage is much better.

Interesting, so when you say standard linkage do you mean the S2 linkage from the donor car?

I wanted to tidy it all up inlet-wise. Never seen anyone successfully install a proper FMIC without either a huge SWB front grill or similar. Wanted to retain the stock look as much as possible and so went for it by measuring the space and getting the biggest intercooler I could for it! Completely revamped the inlet system and installed a better oil catch tank with return to the sump via the dipstick tube.

                          Here are afew pics:

Finished article. Grill barely further forward than stock:
