1981 UrQuattro story

  • Guys, I have a strange issue with the car. There is a strange noise that comes from the engine bay. I start hearing it at around 2800rpm, and it gets louder as the rpm go up. When this noise is on, the car feels very strange, like it wants to take off.

    Any ideas what could be the cause?

    • now i have an overboost problem, looks like the WG membrane. is it the same as the later 20v membrane?

      • After I solved all the engine issues and after much other work around the engine, it now runs pretty decently...



        It is slowly becoming a daily

            • now that you have the engine dialed in, time to yank it out and swap in a 20vt or 07kt engine!

              On a serious note, it looks great, and i'm happy you got it back to its former glory.

                      • New title, as the car is now a rolling project, the way i like it

                        the propshaft bearing was squealing, a cv joint boot was broken, winter came... so it was time to get back to work, as it still has issues i have to solve to fully enjoy springtime.


                        some time ago all the belts, and lower pulleys were replaced

                        i had to make my own ghetto style locking tool



                        that worked out just perfectly



                        both bottom pulleys new, new roller and belts, refurbished alternator



                        the leaking brake regulator replaced



                        the clock turned back to match the "mileage" covered together (now over 1600km)



                        coolant temp and boost gauge installed



                        two new keychains, one for the CD, the other for the quattro



                        now i am in the process of overhauling the propshaft, rear diff and rear axles

                        today it was sandblasting time

                            • so the renewed parts were installed at last









                              and i got lucky to get my hands on a set of oz futuras in an awesome combination of width and ET (8,5x17 ET 38)







                              the car is a bit too low with the springs i have, i think i will get a set of -40 h&r springs instead...
