Bloomin iPad... Thought I would show you my brothers smoothed and primed engine bay. It's something I never want to repeat ever again. This still needs some work on it but it's taken months to get it this far so I know your pain bud!

And a cheeky shot of the engine resting in its home just for measuring up things... As you can see it's also now in high build primer and still needs work!

No but I'm going to get one.

It's not a problem at the moment as I'm only laying primer which will of cause be flatted, will be a major head ache when laying top coats though!

I do like the look of the removed rain tray. My remit for this project is "no non reversible mods" which is the only reason I won't be doing it.

I think you are very sensible bud. It might look good but in many ways it doesn't as you can see wobbly top edges from where Vw made them not straight and you also can't run the heater and it needs covering to keep the cab dry with this removed. Plus your smile light tin top is worth a lot more in closer to oem than this caddy. You don't happen to have the swallow tail rear panel do you?

Yes laying top coats will need utmost care, correct viscosity, temp etc so it flashes off quickly to avoid horrible fallout from what would otherwise spoil a really nice job.

Built my self a frame today to get the car 1Meter off the floor

Uni-strut welded up and attached to the bumper mounts

I then removed the rear beam, all the lines and the fuel tank.
Tank is in superb condition considering it's 32 years old.
Every nut came undone no problem.
There is some surface corrosion around the rear beam mounting points but it's only surface crud, nothing serious.

Just going through my general plan

                    • Remove remaining running gear
                    • Strip underside
                    • Prep/Paint underside (at home)
                    • Prep/Paint engine bay (at home)
                    • Prep/Paint inside (at home)
                    • Refurbish/refit running gear
                    • Exterior prep/ 2nd primer
                    • Exterior final flat
                    • Exterior paint (body shop)
                    • Flat/polish
                    • Rebuild

Easy when you say it like that

Liking the 1m of the floor frame you made. Clever idea!

I change my mind about the colour at least 3 times a day at the moment! I agree black dose look good.

The point at which VAG got under my skin was a mars red mk1 driver when I was 19, I still miss it now.
