Paul, instead of paying a paintshop a ridiculous amount of money painting it, do the rust removal (if any) as well as any preparation/body work and then PlastiDip the S2.
I Plastidipped my Golf this summer (I did a full respray of it myself back in 2002) and the Plasti Dip works great. When you get tired of the colour, just tear it off or shoot some more Plasti Dip in a different colour.
The matte black actually looks even better live, as it looks darker than in the pics. Not like matte black vinyl wrap, that often looks like a spray can job.
Plasti Dip is done with an electric sprayer and not a traditional paint gun. Almost no overspray, so can be done in the garage without covering up everything within a 2 mile radius.

Good comments there. I should plan on a dry fit of engine with target EM and turbo fitted just to check for any clearance issue on that side of engine room. Also downpipe clearance. Nothing else should be significantly different.
As for colour - baseline is plain old white and that's all there is to it. Maybe satin black interior if I am feeling that way.
I do plan on doing as much preparation as I can to keep costs down... At least the heavy horrible stuff like underseal and sound deadening material. In an ideal world I will have to prepare the roof, pillars and tailgate if wings, bonnet and doors are fibreglass !!!
I am not 100% sure on the fibreglass yet - gonna be a lot cheaper to just renew the front wings and keep it looking GpN or GpA - with the GpB esque arches it may attract too much of the wrong attention. I dunno - jury is still out on that.
On the windscreen - it doesn't actually leak there (yet) but it's one of those gnarly areas that may need special attention and etch primer etc before it goes to the cage guy.Paul Nugent

I am worried that I haven't thought enough about gearbox though - heading for 550Nm isn't going to be liked by a CGR box with 140k miles although it has never given one moment of grief despite 40k miles at 430Nm. I still have original clutch too !!!
If money was no object I would be looking at a "dog box" but an 01E diesel is probably going to be the way of things - although ratios can be a concern. Fortunately this area is kind of self contained and doesn't impact other areas.Paul Nugent

Correction - 59k miles at 430Nm... was in the cabin tonight delousing the door cards and seats... 159k on original clutch says a lot about these cars !
True I wouldnt be the harshest on a clutch, but I dont exactly drive like Miss Daisy either !Paul Nugent

I got distracted by compressor maps and EM choices tonight - thinking away too far ahead... I was leaning towards GT2876R... then found the GTX2867R 0.63A/R on the T3 flange which it turns out has been used to good effect on at least one car here already.
I was thinking of camshaft changes too, but nope - I am staying stock as I want the torque as low as possible (and still hit 400bhp). I think a head job is the order of the day along with some lovely Wagner components !
Now its time to sleep - I slogged thru some 26 page thread just now to settle myself !Paul Nugent

lol - it came to me in a moment of silliness - tis an old biblical story about a man called Lazarus who came back from the dead (allegedly). Most hilarious as I am not the least bit religious. There is another layer of dyslexic irony about the name which I might tell you over a beer sometime. Anyway - when I see the chassis caged & painted, I will have to give the project a more befitting namePaul Nugent
