Engine rebuild very soon. Might need some help, guys!

    So guys,

As from the subject I will be rebuilding my engine very soon and have no idea where to get the right parts at the right price. Planning to get as much torque as i can from my 2.2 [not interested to stroke it or a diesel conversion] with forged h-beam rods and everything new. Budget is not high but not too low. Torque target would be 600-700Nm with power on 400-500 or crank hp... everything with the help of water/alcohol injection and ron98 gasoline.

Will buy the rods from FCP-enginering, I found that Norbitron sells the tfsi loom for that kind of coils but i need more parts.... all the parts.

    Oil pump
    Rod bearings
    Main shaft bearings
    Piston rings
Head gasket and head seals kit
    Tfsi black coils
    Valve guides
    ARP head to block bolts
    Any specific fuel pump?

And a sheet with all the tightening torque of every single bolt in the engine.
Will reuse the pistons and my already ported and polished loggie exhaust mani. Stock IC with fresh air pick up and a flat motorcycle fan behind it.

Now my questions. Does a k26/27 [maybe billeted] provide such a high torque? I want it as it is a kkk and keep the stock look inside the engine bay. Will the stock DP hold that power? I have a 3" exh cutoff valve just in the middle of the Y before the cats btw...it helps a lot.

I just want to get as much torque from the engine, no estimated bhp goals, just torque....well okay maybe over 400. Want to keep fully stock engine bay look.

Estimated budget is between 2000 to 2500euro....hopefully with the turbocharger included if i find a tired one to rebuild and billet it.

I have my billeted, rebuilded, ported and polished k2470 that spools amazingly fast...willl be on sale as soon as the car gets to the clinic for it's surgery.

Hope to hear good suggestions about this!

    Cheers

    Fabs.

PD. Want to keep my Motronic only in the case i don't find any PnP Vems on my way at a bargain price.

As no one else has said anything just yet, (36 views), stated budget seems too low, imho.

As the engine is being opened up, you might also wish to consider a rebore with new pistons, that's if the budget extend that far. It means you won't have to open the engine up again.

Either way you need to have suitable / proven engine builder lined up with a fixed cost before you start.

    Best wishes.

Thanks for your opinion mate. Yes I think I might raise my budget or stay with the stock rods and engine as it currently is. I was also forgetting the water pump and new clutch kit.

      Cheers Mac!

tbh, I was thinking your stated budget was too low with out the new pistons and rebore.

With a task such as this, a rule of thumb might be to double your initial budget and then some. And then some more for the stuff you've still forgotten / only find as you go along / stuff it would be wise to do as 'you're in there' rather than leave till later.

At least loads of stuff will be done at the one time, even if you penniless for half a year.

Appreciate the car is a keeper from another thread, but after this work it will need to be.

Assuming it is an original Spanish car, I presume there is no rust issues on the suspension, just 'heat issues' caused by the hot weather together wear 'n tear from using the car for 18 years ?

        Regards.

          Hi
I have just rebuilt my engine ( 3B ) and mcspring has it spot on!
I never realy had a budget as the car has been an ongoing project for the last 4 years and things got done as time/funds allowed. The engine has probably cost more than car is worth! Why do we do it? My advice is forget budget, get the credit card out and go for it. For what you plan I would also get some spare gearboxes

Double the initial budget would be a bit hard but i can add a €1000 extra maybe...that way I already will be pennyless for half a year

The car has no rust at ll since it has never seen the snow not even once and since I bought it I make use of it only in the case it is not raining or would not rain at all. I do about 5-10k km a year.... less than 8k miles/year.

I have my self modded K2470 to sell and give me a hand to raise my budget and also have my other S6's engine to sell...but Spanish ppl want to pay €500 for a 160k km engine, completely stock (just w/o turbocharger. I am asking for €800 no turbo nor accessories).... it's awful to deal with these ppl.

            Kind regards!

lol you're right tho. I will be getting my credit card within next week. Unfortunately I have to take control of the situation and avoid big heavy buys as I did with my old ex-CoupeQuattro spending 6k euros for nothing....So I need to stay with the head over my neck this time hehe

RS2 turbo will deliver 600-625nm on 98/99ron, with WMI you can push timing closer to MBT so 700nm is probably possible.
So presuming the rest of the engine is in good health, you only need to upgrade rods for added safety margin.

I can supply a TFSi harness if required

if the engine runs fine i would gather all the parts that are needed for the rebuild and then open the engine and look if you need a rebore.
you would wonder how mutch a engine rebuild can cost.
Clutch will be something like 650.
                  rods 450
                  bearings 150
                  gaskets bolts 350
                  arp stunds 150
                  timing belt set 150.
and thats only the start ...

Mate the only BUT I have with the k2472 is that I just don't like it. IMO it's definitely too expensive for what it is when even a replace is needed. This is why I'd go for a k26/27 even if it is hard to find tho.

Yes old KKK are getting hard to find now, but some like the RS2 unit give very strong torque. You should speak to Vidar on the forum he will supply billet KKK hybrids.
