would you....
a) go for a 3b with 150k on the clock and some mtm mods (1992)
b) go for a 1994 aby with 120k on the clock and pretty standard apart from ss exhaust.
Just couple of options right now...not sure on either to be honest!
30k mile in a car not looked after is a big difference to 30k in a lavished example...go on quality and proof over much else IMO
good luck.....3b is lighter and mostly possible to decat legally whereas the aby more modern ignition, stronger box if later one with wider first gear fitted but is heavier, dual mass clutch makes for even more ponderous changes.
Plenty of options to get more out of each model to be honest

There is a few of us running over 210,000 miles in our 3B S2 and still pull as good as when they were built. Don't get hung up on mileage you have to judge every example on it's own merits.
You could get a standard ABY with 80,000 on the clocks that is still running all original bushes and suspension or you could get a forum owned S2 where thousands of pounds have been spent replacing everything, including a fully rebuilt engine. At what point does it not matter what it says on the clock inside the car????

my budget...depends on my mood! i would say up to 5K currently but that would have to be my 'perfect' S2 that makes me weak at the knees when i see it! haha
ABY for me, but as already said there are pros and cons to both.
Above all buy on condition (you can almost ignore the mileage as stated above) make sure there are loads and loads of bills and receipts and history. These cars are not cheap to run and bills mean it has been looked after.
Good luck and
Cheers,
Steve.
