Maybe it would be a solution to make some kind of electronic device/transformer which transforms HFM5 signal to MAF like signal which Motronic understands without any need to change it... same idea as when ex soviet commercial radio frequency (УКВ) net was changed to Western frequency FM net and you wanted to use soviet built radios.

I believe this solution would be more attractive to possible clients..

    possible pros
    - plug'n'play solution which could be done in your garage
    - the original motronic stays untouched this means it can be sold/bought/swapped freely
    - if you have it already chipped there is no need to rechip it
    - if you change your car you can easily change back to the old maf and keep the NMF5 hardware for you next 20vt car or sell it separately

    possible cons
    - expences in development of this electronic transformer

I don't think a programmable voltage conditioner is the way to go.
It is a lot cheaper/easier to just modify the ECU to accept the new MAF, rather than come up with a voltage conditioner and what not...
Especially since you would have to re-calibrate the MAF inside the ECU anyway to take advantage of the increased range.

Adding a piggyback is not really the solution IMO, especially since the stock ECU has all the facilities in place to do this the "right way".
Also - I see the resale value of the ECU going UP, not down due to it being able to be used with a HFM5 sensor.
This will be especially true, once the MAF's start going out of production and will cost 500+ EUR for a new one.

I think a middle man connector is best way forward unless i can find a source of jpt6 male plugs - they are very elusive unfort.

Is this saying that the hot film MAF as a direct replacement will not give the benefits of increased power range, i.e. +350hp? Or did I read that wrong?

I'd be interested in doing the conversion, but it would seem a bit pointless going for the direct replacement if i didn't get any benefits on a 380-400hp car. Though, you could argue that isn't so far off the scale anyway i guess.

Guess I'm just trying to see if it's worth changing on a chipped RS2; I'd want to keep the RS2 airbox too.

The only reason to change on a chipped car is when your MAF fails you won't have to pay 275 EUR anymore.
In the even the HFM5 should fail, you can change the sensor core for 60 EUR.

Maxed out the RS4 HFM5 with the help of my friend Jason at AMD:

Cool, I have been chatting with Jason about this project, but didn't know that you guys cooperated (had a hunch, though )
Here is my graph, probably maxing out the RS2 MAF by some margin... right under 440whp/460wtq on E85:

So the RS4 MAF would be the one to use on an RS2 with 400-500 hp?

Remember it is only with PRJ tuning not for generic use

Yup, well at least with PRJ rescaling of the MAF signal - once that is done I assume any proficient motronics tuner could do the rest... I would be interested to know if one could supply an ECU that could then be re-calibrated to use the RS4 MAF with the existing MAP - from PRJ's comment that there is a small margin of error I assume this could be done?

Of course, the intention would be to get the car fully mapped to take advantage of the extra range...

Safe to say a large margin... Dyno sheet looks good!

That is an impressive result alright... must be a record for 20yr old motronic - as it left the factory (well except for a sneaky MAF improvement)... good that Mr Bosch left so much headroom in the scaling.

i am using this Maf since April, with k26/27 and k24 7200 turbos and all perfect, i am very happy with it and of course with Dmitri´s work.

also big thanks to Jason too

I think people understood that the first three times you said it

Anyway, yeah, this is for custom mapped setups.
And doing Ross' car is not a problem, if he chooses this route, as I'll be over in the UK in October...
