Avant Rear Brake Upgrade - Rear Brake Porn by request
Fitted my 8E0 upgrade kit supplied by Ben on Friday.
Had to grind a little clearance on the caliper mounts to get them to mount up properly, had to make up two new brake pipes and some of the bolts supplied weren't quite right but that was as difficult as it got.
Until...... I trial fitted my 16" Avus wheel.
No problems with clearance on the caliper itself but the handbrake release spring rubbed against the wheel rim and got knocked off by a balance weight. After comparing the standard S2 caliper with the 8EO one with the spring removed I've come to the conclusion that there seems to be sufficient 'spring' in the 8E0 caliper to be able to run without the external return spring. Time will tell whether this is the correct decision. I'll be monitoring it to see if I get any problems.
Still got to get them bled properly and the handbrake is going to need adjusting before MOT time but a very nice easy conversion.
Cheers
David

1994 S2 Avant - Warmed up a bit
1995 A6 Avant - Dag Dag Delight
just had mine fitted and the braided line I had made is too short...even though it is 20mm longer than the standard S4 one!!....but feels good though....
I don't *think* the B5 S4 rears will fit... disc offset is all wrong.
If you can't afford the B7 S4 conversion on your Avant (as per this 8E0 thread) then its maybe best you just refresh the factory setup. Discs are cheap even from Audi and refurbished calipers are available on exchange basis from good parts dealers. Make sure you request correct caliper for your car though - the B4 Avant has different caliper from B3 Coupe.

when you had the 256mm on the rear what carrier did you use?
my brakes on the 90 all need overhauled so im thinking using my current front disc's on the rear and fit 276 grooved with green stuff to the front
im going the sleeper look so i want keep my 15" rims
Really interesting thread! I've been looking quite a while for a decent upgrade. With 323mm drilled S8 discs in front, yellowstuffs and porsche 996 calipers, I think this will do just fine at the back of the sedan. Thnx for the clear overview on the previous page.
The PCD of the TT disc is 5x100. They need to have the holes elongated to fit 5x112. You also need to alter the profile of the centre chamfer as it doesn't fit with the S2 hub. I had mine done by an engineering firm so they were accurate but even them I didn't like the play in the disc hence moving up to 300mm and then 330mm.
