Yep, the 968s have those too - althought they're not made of plastic, it's a metal laminate, with as you say, two cylinders that plug in to the pistons.
I was wondering how much they cost to replace, I was fearing they'd be more than £22 for the set...
Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
When I spoke to the guy on the phone he said £100 each but when I got there he tried to blag £125 citing that the fronts are difficult to get hold of He backed down though and let me have them for £100. When they have them in stock the web-site advertises black calipers for £85+VAT each & red or silver ones for £125+VAT each.
For the other parts required see Alistair C's BTDT on his web-page:
Ben, what is the part number for you big reds? Id rather go through the 'off the shelf parts' route, but want to know if ther is any options on what calipers/carriers etc i could use.
Does anybody have any opionions?

David - I've no experience with this really but a guy putting 996 calipers on his VR6 golf did do what you're talking about....... nipples & crossovers.....
I think many of the porsche calipers were designed to be used either way - but I'd suggest looking at the actual calipers in question before committing yourself!
Porsche (and Audi) part numbers are handed, odds are the left hand side and evens are the right. You must adhere to this!!!
The only thing you need to worry about are whether the original fitment for the calipers are leading (in front of the hub) or trailing (behind the hub), and what the project car they are going to be fitted on are, the Porsche 996 Carrera calipers (996.351.425.01 and 426.01) are rear fitments as on the S2 so you don't need to do anything to them other than fit them on the correct side, left to left and right to right.

Does this mean that they are trailing calipers?
Nice one cheers corey. Ill be looking for some of them then!
God this spending is spiraling out of control...... Help! I think the bug has bitten:wacked: :wacked:

Corey , what makes you say this? I know the castings on the 996 do provide a 'protective ridge' around the crossover pipe on one end of the caliper..... but the nipple & crossover pipe exits are symmetrical top & bottom making it not only possible but also very easy to a caliper from leading to trailing.
As well as the web site above, the pic below shows 3 out of 4 which have been converted......
Have been reading thru the BTDT on Alistairs site.....
Where have you guys sourced the Mounting brackets for these callipers from? Custom made? if so where from? or are mounting brackets available from somewhere already?
Gonna have to read up more me thinks
Thanks
Gonna see what i can sort out now seems more power is coming

They are assyemetrical, it is all to do with the piston diameters, you need to keep them on the correct side so you get even pad wear.
I think you misunderstood what I said, the calipers can indeed be swapped from leading to trailing, the point I was making is that it is critical you keep the left hand caliper on the left hand side of the car and ditto the other side, regardless whether it is leading and trailing.
I convert numerous Monoblocks from leading to trailing, yet still keep the pistons in the correct place to get even pad wear.
