I should be able to get a gd price on discs also from my mates at German & Swedish...
They do the A8 discs, vented not X-Drilled and the standard textar pads for these...
Not high performance but the pads are what would get supplied to a Porsche owner...
If we do this i'll see about getting discounted items if people are interested.Ant

just been browsing the web and looking at S2's with brake upgrades, some S2's have the Caliper trailing the hub, The standard s2 is leading.
Is it possible to have the caliper trailing as long as the caliper is designed to be trailing? or is it too much hassle and better to keep it leading?CoupeComment

I actually never noticed that.... is it still a straight fit with the RS2 carrier mountings or is there messing around involved with getting them to fit?Ant

Some of the photos of cars with leading calipers are other models, please be careful.Originally posted by AbsS2

My coupe quattro 20V has trailing hubs, the lugs are on the back. the steering arm would not allow you to swap it. Unless you want the rack through pots 4+5

as far as i know all s2's have a trailing caliper (i.e. behind the hub) and unless you welded something to the strut you wouldn't be able to get the caliper into a leading position.

David, I assume you meant the hub carrier which is cast iron. If the caliper brackets were welded to the strut, the bracket length would be too large and the stresses involved would be horrible. You would have to be very careful welding to the cast Iron as well.Originally posted by s2driveruk

The other thing is that putting the calipers further forward would push the front/rear balance even more the wrong way. The coupe being very nose heavy as it is!

@Stick.... No i was only saying that you would have to do some welding in order to move the location of the caliper (hypothetically) into a leading position. i have no idea if its even possible....and you are probably right about stresses etc.
I'll stick to trailing position and some big porker brakes to haul me up!

Sorry David, It wasn't meant to sound condescending. I have seen people weld mild steel studs to cast iron suspension items to fit telescopic shock absorbers to Morris Minors. I have also seen the aftermaths as well.
I know this area very well at the moment as I am cleaning up some 2nd hand S2 hubs and hub carriers to fit my Porsche 996 brakes.
I am an Insurance assesor for the club as well and I'm very wary of some of the conversions people undertake in the name of improvements
Good luck with the conversion.
