RS2 Brake Upgrade - Help Please

    Hi guys,

I'm looking at upgrading the brakes on my RS2, both fronts and rears as my current calipers have just about had it!!

I've done a lot of reading on the various upgrade options but the more I read, the more confused I seem to be getting

What I'm looking for is a setup that won't give me any future issues that the stock big/little reds seem to suffer from. I'll be changing discs and pads at the same time so if I need a different disc for the calipers I'll be fitting, it's not a problem.

Can anyone who's "been there" I'd really appreciate it if you could help me by letting me know:-

    1. Which calipers to go for (part numbers would be mega useful if you have them)
    2. What car the calipers are usually fitted to (I was thinking 996 perhaps)
    3. What discs would match these calipers (part numbers?)
    4. Weather or not I'd need a bracket to mount the calipers on the RS2 strut
    5. What's a good pad to match this setup

Also any other info you could provide would be really really helpful because I just don't know which way to go with this!!

    Thanks

Or for that brand new OEM look you could send them to Rob (GT500) and add some decent pads.

Ask Jamo, as I know he is doing an Avant with RS2 Upgrade Spec Brakes...

Not sure what fits under the porsche cup alloys TBH, but I guess the std 996 C2/C4 calipers wll...

He is using the 996/997 GT3 calipers on the front, as he bought a set of my calipers... not sure what he is using on the rear's, or what alloys he's running..

You could always go for the Audi upgrade kit, part number 8A0 698 203.

It's not cheap but you get bigger drilled discs on the front, drilled discs on the back, new front calipers, pads all round, and various nuts and bolts along with the shims for the pads

There was a RS2 that had the brakes converts to 996 set up front and rear. I don't have a link as I'm on the iPhone but it has been done. I think Jamo is in the process of this upgrade too, maybe he can help? Good luck with your plans and I hope you have a good amount of wonga for it cause it's not going to be cheap.

A bit slow on the post but you get the point.

I've prepared myself for the costs!!!

Unfortunately my current calipers are too badly corroded for refurbishment so it needs to be a good secondhand set or brand new calipers of some description.

I've read a lot on upgrading the brakes on an S2 but does it differ on the RS2? Are the struts different? I would assume they are!

I'll get in touch with Jamo, hopefully he can help!

              Fronts;

The calipers will be a simple bolt on to the RS2 bracket using the 996 C2/C4 calipers, as we use the same spec RS2 bracket to mount them on to the arm...

The only differance will be with the discs as you are using porsche hubs & discs... AFAIK

I have the Bruno brackets for the rear and I have custom TideRS brackets for the front

This changes my brake spec to

                    Front:

                    Calipers 996 turbo / GT3 996-351-429 & 996-351-430 GT2/GT3 C4 Turbo Front Calipers...
                    Disc 996 turbo: left 996.351.409.02 & right 996.351.410.02 each disc 330x34mm

                    Rear

Bruno bracket with 928 5.4 GTS sports disc option 299x24
                    996-352-421 & 996-352-422 Rear Calipers

Next option down would be to use the 322x32 disc from the 964 /965 turbo and use the bambridge caliper brackets with the front 996-351-429 & 996-351-430 option.

Next option down would be bruno brackets all round with boxster 996 S calipers all round 996-351-425 & 996-351-426 on the front

The biggest choice will be front calipers, I chose the 996 Turbo and 996 Turbo discs option as believe it or not it is cheaper that the boxster 996 S all round option as the discs are only £80 each in comparison to £144 each for the 964 / 965 discs although you have to pay more for the 996 turbo calipers it offsets it self as pads are also cheaper for the 996 turbo calipers.

All the above will fit under 17" with the wheel weights moved accordingly ( I will be using 19" ).

If your feeling flush then you can use the http://www.ultimot.de/ RS2 kit and go for the RS4 B7 8 pots calipers with 350mm or 368mm discs however I would think you need 18" minimum alloys for them.

You want the 352 ones, there are 996-351-421 calipers I think they are black not red though not sure

352 just relates to REAR Calipers... Colour is the last 2 digits of the porsche numbers

                            Example;

                            996-351-425-10

996 Model type - 351 Fronts (352 Rears) - 425/426 Left or Right side - XX Colour (But not always, as some calipers only come in one colour ie 996/997 GT3 in red)...
