RS2 Brake Upgrade - Help Please

So this setup that Jamo uses is to avoid using the 2 piece calipers but not actually go that much bigger than a 4pot,correct?
I have seen a 330 disc being used with OEM front rs2 calipers(big reds) so there isnt much difference there.
Finally as far as upgrading, i was recently talking to a few people that use 6 and 8pot brakes on their rs4, and the impression i got was that they are brilliant for track as they get up to temperature fast, but not that good for everyday use.
I am currently having my brakes redone by GT500. He is finished doing the rear calipers, and i am fitting new front calipers (and sold the current ones already). I am happy with this setup, but also i dont really track the car either, so there is a point of upgrading if you do track days. Ideally i would like to have a bracket made to get the handbrake on the rear disc rather than the rear drum. But i leave that for the future.Comment

Yep I used the GT3 4 pots, for me they were the best size for stopping power and daily duties, infact for a street car the 996 setup is hard to beat.
The 322mm is the disc to use, I'm using the 330mm but in using these it moves the caliper closer to the alloys, depending on which rim your using you have to be aware of your offset and maybe use spacerComment

I like to keep the car original ( at least in its appearance ), so I plan to keep using the 17" cup wheels. But I am still confused as to what kind of brackets I need to use, if any. The front is definitely a bolt on solution , right ?________________

The 330mm and GT3 fit under stock 17" cup1 with 10mm spacers with the bracket I'm using.Comment

Confused, I've got a set of 352.421/422 calipers for rear of RS2 but it looks as if they were not intended for a disk 24mm wide more for a disk 20mm wide as in the 2.5 boxter rear,
Am I missing something here or are there 2 sizes of caliper with the same part numbers ?

H,
Think Jamo has this covered in his posts but this may be helpful, this iswhat I ae on my RS2.
I am using GT3 4 pot callipers and Porsche 965 Turbo S drilled discs on the front with custom brakets from VRS.
On the rear I have Boxter S 4 pot rear callipers with 928 S4 drilled discs, agin with custom brackets from VRS. This set up allows the use of 996 hanbrake shoes too...
These callipers are monoblock so no worries about corrosion. also the pads and discs can now be had from porsche specialsts, so better availability and prices.
The only modifications necessary are to run some new brake likes for the front, otewise it all fits under te standard 17" RS2 cup wheels. German ebay is good source for the callipers.
Very powerful brakes.
I have ll the part numbers for the callipers, discs, pads and handbrake shoes, will post them later tonight....

Whats the full part number? there are 928 calipers 928.352.421.03 and 928.352.422 that also apply which are totally the wrong partConfused, I've got a set of 352.421/422 calipers for rear of RS2 but it looks as if they were not intended for a disk 24mm wide more for a disk 20mm wide as in the 2.5 boxter rear,

Hi Jamo
Full part numbers are 996.352.421/422
Distance between pad locating pins is 22.6mm so 24mm disk is no chance
managed to get 1 picture in

Are you using the 330x34mm with stock wheels?I have the Bruno brackets for the rear and I have custom TideRS brackets for the front
This changes my brake spec to
Front:
Calipers 996 turbo / GT3 996-351-429 & 996-351-430 GT2/GT3 C4 Turbo Front Calipers...
Disc 996 turbo: left 996.351.409.02 & right 996.351.410.02 each disc 330x34mm
Rear
Bruno bracket with 928 5.4 GTS sports disc option 299x24
996-352-421 & 996-352-422 Rear Calipers
Next option down would be to use the 322x32 disc from the 964 /965 turbo and use the bambridge caliper brackets with the front 996-351-429 & 996-351-430 option.
Next option down would be bruno brackets all round with boxster 996 S calipers all round 996-351-425 & 996-351-426 on the front
The biggest choice will be front calipers, I chose the 996 Turbo and 996 Turbo discs option as believe it or not it is cheaper that the boxster 996 S all round option as the discs are only £80 each in comparison to £144 each for the 964 / 965 discs although you have to pay more for the 996 turbo calipers it offsets it self as pads are also cheaper for the 996 turbo calipers.
All the above will fit under 17" with the wheel weights moved accordingly ( I will be using 19" ).
If your feeling flush then you can use the http://www.ultimot.de/ RS2 kit and go for the RS4 B7 8 pots calipers with 350mm or 368mm discs however I would think you need 18" minimum alloys for them.
Edit: Sorry, just read about the spacers in a post above. Damn, was hoping to find something that fit without spacers
Just purchased "Porsche 911 996 Turbo / 997 C4S / Bremssättel Brembo VA Brake calipers 99635142910 / 99635143010" so will now be looking for discs that fit these on a RS2. Any suggestions to places I can grab some discs is appreciated.Last edited by minim; 23 October 2013, 10:10.Comment
